Why is our Gate and Matchday Income half Liverpools?

Looks like a spurs fan has noticed a discrepancy... (from the Guardian comments)

The thing that really grabs the attention is Chelsea's match-day revenue. How is it possible that with season tickets of equivalent price to Tottenham's, and an average crowd of 110% of Spurs's, they are making about 400% the income from the same activity? Where is the match-day revenue coming from?

Or, consider the case of Arsenal, who have an average ticket price greater than Chelsea's, a crowd 150% of Chelsea's and yet they're only making 120% the match-day income. These are massive discrepancies and something doesn't add up.

FFP says clubs are not allowed to artificially inflate revenue by, for example, bogus sponsorship means, where a company related to the owners pays something outrageous for shirt sponsorship. Does the same apply for corporate hospitality rates? If Chelsea for instance were shown to be raking corporate hospitality rates far in excess of the norm, because companies related to their owner were buying up boxes, would this seem the fall foul of the FFP regs?

We need to start selling the boxes for £100k a game!!

Their ST's for 2011/12 cost between £725 and £780. Matchday tickets cost between £39 and £48.

Our ST's for 2012/13 cost between £275 and £745 which was up 9% from the year before. Matchday prices not confirmed.

But how many value seasoncards are there? Very few. And as for match-day ticket prices, there are only ever a handful of cheap tickets in the North Stand because it's largely occupied by seasoncard holders. It's a marketing trick. City can say we have some of the cheapest seasonticket and match days prices but the vast bulk of the tickets are much more expensive For example the majority of the tickets available for Wigan were £45 to £49.

Perhaps it's all out of date and it will reverse when the current season's figures are reviewed.

In Liverpools case unless a child sits with an adult in the family section its full price anywhere else within the ground that makes a huge difference and of course as highlighted already their season tickets are much more expensive.

Maybe, but It depends on how they priced their fa cup games. We always charge top dollar for regular tickets and hospitality for the CL but much less for the cup. And we had some money spinning domestic cup ties ourselves, including a united game and a league cup quarter and semi final

I think they price theirs similar to us, and they had similar ties (United and us at home + 3 Wembley matches).

The Arsenal Qtr had very cheap tickets £10 or £20 depending on tier, and Liverpool got the same as us for the semi receipt wise.

Liverpool's sum probably includes prize money also.
Good point about the prize money. probably applied to Chelsea too as they won the Champions League

Factually incorrect in your info for the Wigan game...

Taken from Mcfc.co.uk

Manchester City v Wigan
Wednesday 17 April
Kick off – 7.45pm

Tickets for this game are priced from:

£20 Adult

£18 18-21

£13 16-17

£5 junior (Under 16)

£18 Over 65s

£18 Disabled (wheelchair & ambulant)

Don't know about you but they seem very reasonable! And because of this reasonableness we will often be down on Matchday revenue compared to other clubs. Unless of course you prefer City to hike the prices up??

There's a Scouse twat at my works and he paid over £1,500 for season tickets for him and his lad. I'm not sure how old his lad is ( he may be an adult for all I know ) but if you assume he's a child the equivalent in the North Stand cost about what, £600? £650?

That's a hell of a fucking difference. And long may it continue.

No actually you make my point

The key point is FROM. There are very very few tickets available at those prices. The tickets that are available are in a much higher price range. Those that were left the evening before were in the high 30s and 40s.

So we cleverly get brownie points in the cheap ticket tables, but maximise ticket revenue at the same time. Yet oddly our match-day revenues don't seem to reflect this.........yet.

For where we are, we are one of the most reasonably priced clubs in the Premier League. Season tickets are very cheap considering our position and this is mainly due to our supporter base.

London based clubs will always have the jump on us due to location based prices (ie. disposable income) and the likes of Liverpool will always be able to play on their past when setting prices.
