Why is the crowd so quiet

Anyone who hasn't already, register your interest with 1894 group if you want to improve the atmosphere. There is a thread about it as a sticky on here called regrouping of singers.

A good atmosphere needs lots of young men and boys in the crowd.

Well there are plenty of kids at our ground now. Not just in the Family Stand either, I've sat in two different blocks (102 and 107) in the last 4 years and there were plenty of kids. The questions are by the time these are old enough to do their own thing will a). we have any atmosphere left for them to aspire to join (the new area could solve that) and b). Will they be able to afford tickets with the never ending price spikes and their graduation to adult prices?

There aren't as many young men and teenagers as there used to be.

Most kids now are accompanied by middle aged, middle class parents. There are none of those groups of teenagers or young boys that there used to be at Maine Rd.

The crowd is more like a family outing to a theme park or a museum than an old style football crowd.

I bet hardly any 12 - 18 years olds go to the match these days without mum, dad or some other adult whereas it used to be quite common for groups of boys to get the bus to the match.

As far as I can see the people who run the premier league are quite happy with an affluent, older audience and don't care about the modern, muted atmosphere at games.

To be honest, it was the same for the home fans at Everton today. The odd whole ground song, but apart from that it was silent basically. Obviously a whole country problem.

Can't really moan at them, same everywhere we go including ourselves. The constant persistent standing will bet you chucked out message all the time, mind you who'd want to stand up in half of Goodisons stands. How they keep passing health and safety is unbelievable.

The away end was absolutely hammered about 10 mins before KO, took us ages to get from one side to the other. Then you get to your seat and it's tiny and we're all packed in like sardines. It's definitely up there with one of the worst in the country.

Most concourses are too small. Hull City have a ten year old ground and theirs is too.

Grounds should have prices capped according to facilities, like Pompey without a roof hosting Richard Scudamore's 'premium product' with a wall to piss against should have been £10.
