Why no pen?

To square it up. He realised his mistake and wanted to even it out. Truly dreadful officiating.
Spot on and as Tyler and ratboy said on commentary a classic case of two wrongs somehow making a right. Given the poor decisions working against both sides I just wonder if there for once might be action against him.

He didn't want to award the penalty, simple as that... whatever his thought process was last night with every decision was absolutely woeful... was I right in hearing he reffed a world cup game and made an pigs ear of it aswell?
Euros between Italy and Germany as well, gave a bullshit penalty to the Germans and nonsensical decisions the whole game (let Balo away with murder in that game)
he should be reffing sunday league games from now on
That's a bit harsh on Sunday league teams

Same referee who ruled out a legitimate goal for us at the Etihad against Bayern in 2011 and never awarded a penalty that night either. He was nearly as bad as Kassai in the first round in Munich when we should have been awarded two penalties in the opening minutes.

It's an incredibly intimidating atmosphere for a ref. I was in their end and the volume of the whistles and jeers is deafening everytime there's a perceived injustice. He's still a **** though.

So, for all intents and purposes, the chat with the Captains before the game should have gone "Ok Captains, let's keep it a fair and competitive game of football and I'll make sure I do the same - unless I get frightened in which case I'll assume any Barcelona player that falls over has been cynically scythed down and I'll also book as many City players as I can to ensure it's anything BUT fair and competitive. Cheers."

The Ref was awful, yes he got a couple of Barca decisions wrong too, but what really wound me up was all the minor fouls he gave against City, which must have really pissed the players off, Iniesta falling over when being breathed on by Yaya, the same as in the first leg. As soon as Yaya is fouled by a shortarse player, nothing is given.

This is what gets me. He got a couple of big ones wrong yes, but it was the nothing fouls that went barcas way and got our boys booked.

I have to agree 100%. You can add neymar throwing himself to the deck and getting Vinny a yellow to that as well. How that little pussy didn't get two yellows for diving was beyond me. Fiberglass should have had a couple of yellows for persistant fouls as well. I texted my wife within the first 15 mins of the game and said there's no way this ref is going to allow us to win this game. A fucking joke equal with the first pillock we had at our place.

You have to remember also the vociferous appealing that Barca gave when Kompany scored our onside goal, I honestly thought they were going to overturn that, some much was the intimidation, no getting away from it the pressure from the crowd & players affects referree's decisions. Easy not to give anything.
