Why this was brilliant result

I don't think Villa can play any better than they did tonight and they rarely caused us problems in open play.
Villa's energy levels were fantastic. They stopped us from playing. All in all a good result.

Good away result againt a team with the lowest goals conceded in the division.

City's defence should be better though considering the money spent on it.

My God. If we can get a point at Villa with so many underperformers!

It is totally unreasonable of fans to think every player can play like Maradona week in week out.

I thought that for huge periods it looked like Villa were the away team. And goal apart we had little trouble defending.

Liverpool lost here and I wouldn't be surprised if one or two other big clubs do too.

Villa ran furiously but they couldn't put us under sustained pressure whereas for 10 minutes before we scored they hardly touched the ball.

Pretty decent performance I'd say.

With regard to Dunne's goal, I was a bit worried before the corner was taken when I saw that Barry was marking him. Dunne's always had the potential to score from set plays, he's proved that for Ireland. For too many years we couldn't get a corner past the first man. That wasn't Dunne's fault.
How many times was Given tested last night, did he make a save?
As someone's pointed out, we've only lost once this season and that was robbery.
With so many new faces coming in during the summer we have to be happy with our start.

Hughes now has a huge problem of who to start in our next match.
DeJong hasn't done anything wrong, but playing the lesser teams Ireland has to start above him.
I still think that Petrov is a better option on the left, so that means Bellers down the middle with SWP or Tevez on the right and on current form I'd give that spot to Tevez.

In his post match interview MON said it was the best they had played all season, and they were very fast closing down and winning the lose balls.

When the game kicked off we give the ball away instantly cos Villa came at us as quick as they could, when the second half started and they kicked off we just jogged on and let them pass it about.

We diddnt play particularly well last night and Villa played at their best according to MON and still we got a comfortable draw, that will do for me away at one of our rival's for the top 6.

yes we didnt play great but still got a draw, but saying its a brilliant result is daft- a brilliant result would of been if we had won.

In the fullness of time i reckon this will prove to be a significant result.

Our boys confidence can only have risen after a draw away at a team that will almost def finish in the top 6. And this was on a night when our usual industry and trickery did not come off for us. Villa are excellent defensively but had lady luck been a tad more favourable we could have nicked a win against the EPL's best defensive record.

Brilliant Result would be taking it too far however being a local, on the train back most of the Villa fans seemed pleased with their performance. The fact that SWP/ Tevez/ RSC/ De Jong /Barry all had slightly or very below par games and we came away with a comfortable draw away to a decent side says volumes about the potential of the side.

In the not too distant past if 2/3 players had an off night we would have meekly surrendered and settled for a 2-0 defeat.

16pts from 21 is a good ratio with some tough away games out of the way.

Lets hope we come through through this international break without any injuries.

surely that was the most frantic prem game yet seen. both teams ran their legs off but lacked quality with the final ball, too many players trying to force the game. Villa were probably as good as they can be,but for us we can look forward to a higher level as the squad start to know and trust each other. By december we will have a formation for every occasion and not be dependent on one player unlike some of our rivals. From a managers pov the ball was given away too often, fatal against top opposition and we still look dis-organized against high balls into the box ( shay's only weakness imo) In all it was a reality check for those who think we will win every game, but we have the squad to be strong to the end of the season, home and away, big pitches ,small pitches, against cloggers and artists . Refs and luck are beyond our control
