Wigans fan base is pathetic

Living and Working in Wigan it is easy to see why the Football club doesn't get many supporters. For the last 30 years, this town has been split in to 5 categories. Liverpool Supporters, Scum Supporters, Warriors supporters, Saints supporters and finally the Latics supporters. Wigan haven't been in the "top flight" long enough to attract a younger generation, so most of the supporters you'll see are of the older persuasion. What I have noticed (working in schools in Wigan) is that a lot of the kids growing up now are Wigan supporters, and I hope for the sake of my area, that Wigan do stay in the Prem because all these kids would just swing back to one of the other clubs.

Oh, and a further point to add for anyone who thinks my argument is mightily convenient, look at how I've utterly condemned the FFP and how it attempts to lock the door to other clubs. I believe in keeping the door open to let other clubs do what we've done. UEFA has attempted to slam it shut and I've criticised them for it every step of the way.

You're saying that it's alright for a decent sized Premier League club to recieve the funds to climb into the Champions League and it's alright for a historically big club to spend their way back to the Premier League but not for a small club to recieve the funding to climb the leagues. Just how do you decide how big a club are? Is it trophies, average attendances over 100 years or what? If you're against FFP, it can only be because you want to leave the door open for any club to get themselves to their own promised land, not just the clubs who get your blessing.

Spot on. Considering he's against FFP, Skashions rant against Wigan is bizarre, nonsensical, and unwarranted.

I think you'll find I didn't specify any size requirement on Premier League clubs. Nor did I say it's alright for big clubs to spend their way in with funding from a rich owner. Outside of the Premier League I don't agree with any club using cash injections to get into the Premier League because we know they aren't necessary. It's nothing to do with the size of the club so this is a complete misrepresentation of my position. Once you're in the Premier League fairly, I couldn't give two shits who gets a cash injection. You've labelled this about being clubs who have my blessing as if I'm sat here overlording like St. Peter at the Pearly Gates, you're allowed in, no you're not, just because I like some clubs and not others. No, it's not about the club. It's not about the history. It's not about the trophies. It's not about the attendances. It's about the cash injection. If Leeds got a cash injection from a wealthy owner I'd be just as against that as Wigan. I think and hope you're conflating two separate arguments; one simply stating that Wigan do not have the fanbase to fill a Wembley allocation because they do not have the league history other small-town clubs who have filled their Wembley allocations have - this is a fact; and a separate one wherein I have argued that I don't think any cash-injected team has a right to be in the Premier League - this is an opinion.

I was speaking to 3 Wigans fans after our home game against them last season, they were nice lads and had a very good football knowledge. They wern't dicks like Blackburn or Bolton fans can be towards us. Also my old history teacher was a massive Wigan fan and was on their books as a kid, he's shown us pictures of him at Springfield Park (some blues wont remember or even acknowledge the last time we played there).

Wigan used to annoy me, especially there fans, but i've grown to actually like them, above Bolton and Blackburn anyway. However, if they were to beat us in the final (if we get there), i will jump off the coach on the way back.

Me and my missus have come to an agreement that if we get priced out of going to City, we'd look at going to Wigan for our football fix. 20 minute train journey, cheaper tickets, no waiting list.

Fair play, but Wigan will always be a rugby league town and with them going well this season guess where the natives are going for their hols, the challenge cup final ;-)

The list of clubs receiving cash injections to try and secure a place in the honeypot PL is a long one. Your argument is about the amount involved irrespective of whether they are successful in getting promoted. Wigan and Fulham got too much and are in the PL but if Leeds, Leicester, Watford & Forest had a similar sized cash injection and don't get into the top division you'd condemn them as well. How about the parachute funding clubs? The likes of Blackburn, Bolton & Wolves also have had a significant financial advantage this season and it will continue into next.

Surely the bonus of a benefactor is simply one factor among several that can skew the market? It can go completely the other way of course like Portsmouth and Swindon. It's just good luck on the part of those that find a sugar daddy but it's also good management to make the most of it. I don't think you can exempt substantial owner investment in clubs like QPR just to keep them in the PL either, isn't that wrong on your measure as well? Crucially, who's to say how much is so much as to make it unfair anyway? I think we should leave "financial doping" claims to Mr.Wenger.

Wembley say 14k seats will be empty so why not offer millwall some more? They have sold 31k already. No wonder they can't get cash back quick enough

This game should be being held in birmingham for starters.

Wigan shot themselves right in the foot by making tickets only on sale to fans with a past purchase history with the club -as I tried to buy one in their end- am all for anyone playing against millwall.
totally agree with this made us members yesterday as you never know when you may want to see them play after saturday ,if you know what i mean ,and wouldnt sell loyal fans like ourself a ticket without purchase history !!
