Think you'll find the appeasment was before 1939 mate. But you knew that anyway.
My issue is that you've made a sweeping statement about "soldiers" that I doubt you're in any way qualified to make.
Goodnight.
I didn't make the intial comment, however we went to war because we had to not because of some higher moral reason. Correct me if I'm wrong but if we could have got away with it we'd have stayed well clear? How can you presume to know anything about me by the way? You've never met me.
Ha ha it was late.....;-)
Sorry to contradict you but there was no way we would've been able to stay out of the war.Hitler considered us his "brothers in arms" and rumours abounded that he offered us a deal to join the Nazis and dominate Europe.
We already had a deal with Poland that should they be attacked it would be the "final straw."
Churchill knew the writing was on the wall.
We would've been brought into the war eventually. At one point we were the only thing that stood between total Nazi domination of Europe. Some would argue that the Battle of Britain, fought by pilots only just out of their teens is the most important battle this country ever fought-had we lost then I doubt we would ever have had this discussion.
Mind you-seeing as how both my Dad and Grandad are ex-RAF I would say that.:-)
That's why some of the comments made in this thread are just totally unrealistic and downright unfair on the men and women that do the "dirty work" of the Government of the day and-why I saw my arse.
law74-I for one salute you mate-I totally understand your points.
It's not the fault of the front-line soldiers if the politicians running the show are pricks.
Like I said earlier, it's very easy to get the sociology text-books out when the freedoms and the sacrifices of others are the very things that have given you the chance to do so.
