Will Silvinho be the new Galuber Berti?

end of the day this means garrido will move on. sylvinho is here to challenge bridge but only for one year. i fully expect mcgivern will now go on loan to the championship for more game time (great for him) and it kees bridge on his toes. great deal hughes!

My point is that I don't think we need him. His age is irrelevant. My concern is that he will play at the expense of our youth players who may become disullusioned with City and end up going elsewhere, thats all. Thats if he plays at all of course!

Our youngsters could benefit from him being there. I'm sure if Robinho wasn't there then it would be better for Weiss but i know who i prefer.

Lescott came to play centre back and if he is playing and Bridge is injured then rather than change two positions in the back four in moving lescott over and bringing another CB in, just replace like for like with less disruption

I don't think they have any reason whatsoever to be disillusioned. We got rid of Elano, a Brazilian international, because Hughes thought it would be easier for Weiss that way. Ireland is absolutely crucial for us. Basically, if you are an academy player, and you are really good, then there will be space made available for you in the squad, similar to Richards and Ned. Richards had a horrific season last year, but is still around and trusted. He might not have been around now if he was not an academy player. SWP is around, and to be honest, it looks like Hughes are counting on Johnson to fill the shoes of Barry/Ireland when they are out. No need to be disillusioned whatsoever for the academy players. In fact, they are part of the revolution in every way and gets to play in a more glorious City team than ever! It is fantastic.

we need experience to mount any sort of challenge for top four, if we just threw the youngsters in would you be happy at the end of the season with 7th place and no silverware. i think once hughes has got the balance right he can blood the young lads in with no detriment to the result.

Compared to last season, 7th place and no silverware would be an improvement!

But, i think we have all now set our sights higher than that, and we need a squad to realistically compete at the top of the table and in the Cups. Hughes is building a tremendous squad - our front 4 must be the envy of most of the Premiership - and i understand that experience is crucial.

My only point was that with Bridge, Lescott (who can fill in at left back), Garrido (who isn't that different a player to Silvinho), was there a real need to sign Silvinho on a one-year deal? I'm sure that with our squad we could afford to play Ryan McGivern, etc away to Palace, etc in the Carling Cup, without signing Silvinho.

Anyway, good to see the different opinions on this signing, which is what this site is all about.

Yes but would you be happy with McGivern being asked to play at the swamp? And Garrido isn't a patch on Sylvinho really.

But would you be comfortable with McGivern at left back when Bridge is out for 3 months? Keep in mind, that the backups must be prepared to face any team at any time, and might play most of the season.

Why would McGivern play at the swamp? Bridge will be first choice, and if anything happens to him, i assume Lescott would then slot in at LB, particularly for the big games.

As i've said, most teams blood their youngsters in the Cup's, primarily the Carling Cup. With our squad i'm sure we could afford to put a couple of youngsters in the team and still win away at the likes of Palace, etc.

Anyway, he's signed now so what does it fookin matter.

NO! For the big games you need to keep your best CBs together! I think Sylvinho showed he can play against the best in the final last season.
