Will Smith slaps Chris Rock at the Oscars

Lol ok. I’ve not done a psychology degree, so don’t feel qualified enough to evaluate his whole life.

Not really sure what that's got to do with anything I've written, to be honest.

You don't need to have a degree in anything to appreciate the quite blatant hypocrisy and you don't need half a working brain to know that people don't act like that when they snap.

I get that but I'd be far more willing to buy into the sincerity of the apology if he didn't give an insane acceptance speech right after the incident with crocodile tears, trying to make himself out to be the victim and blaming the devil.

The only way he gets away with acting like such a prat is because certain people want to believe it because they've grown up watching him in stuff and thinking he's likeable.
Yeah, that's fair enough

Seems you’ve judged a bloke you haven’t met’s life.

I have no real feelings towards Smith. Bad Boys was pretty decent back in the day. I haven’t thought about him much in the past decade and saw him stage slap someone yesterday.

I don’t know how good of a man he is, but as far as I am aware, he hasn’t drugged any women, so isn’t it the same bracket as Cosby, for me.

All the stills show what looks like a movie slap, the way Smith's arms and hands are, the way he leant into it, also Rock's face is a sell, your head wouldn't turn that far if someone slapped you.

I'm now calling fake. To boost the tv viewing.
Think for a second what has to happen if this was faked.

First, Chris Rock and Will Smith would have had to have got together prior to the event to work out what they were going to do. Will must have also signed off on Chris using that particular joke or something similar in order to set things in motion. Smith would have also had to have known that by doing this he was signing up for increased attention not only on his Wife and her medical condition, but also on their relationship in general. Not something that has been positively reported in the past.

Rock would also have to have knowledge that the joke in question would have invited negative coverage about him and his repartee whilst also putting himself at risk of landing future lucrative presenting jobs.

Smith (who was a shoo-in for the best actor award later in the evening) must have also decided that it was better for him to tarnish his own reputation and also spoil the most prestigious night of his professional career for the sake of AMPAS and to generate increased coverage/ratings for their flagging annual award show.

The comparison was about how they both have spent time lecturing others on the ills of bad language and violence whilst their actions betray their hypocrisy. Not only that but I was also alluding to the public's willingness to buy into the portrait both people have painted for them. It's got nothing to do with who drugged women or any direct comparison between respective crimes.

So not really the same at all.

Got you.

Yep, for some reason - people find it easier to label anything like this as either 'fake' or 'staged' then go all quiet when they realise it isn't.

and for a number of days now the Oscars have been in the news and socials have been a-buzz, prior to this happening i would not have been 100% sure the Oscars were still a thing

Aren’t you virtue signalling by suggesting what should and shouldn’t be joked about?

Is virtue signalling as a phrase only used by people that don’t want others to point out how nasty some people are?
I don't know. It is just one of many strange expressions and words that emanate from the LaLa land.
But back to this country, l would not stand by and let some twat make remarks to any female relative. Wouldn't you?
Many of the attitudes on here remind of the days when Asians felt they had to laugh at the jokes aimed at them?

So why use such a “strange expression”?

Would I stand by? Probably not, but I’d be making sure my wife was okay first and see if she wanted to leave.

Comedy is comedy though. Either everything is off limits, or nothing is.

I'm not doubting what you're saying but I do think you would have be in a minority of at most 1% of adults in the UK that wouldn't have known that the Oscars were still a thing on Sunday morning.

So how come nobody else is comparing the two?

Is it because it’s a stupid comparison?

Are you genuinely asking me why I've said something even though someone else hasn't said it?

It's actually a pretty astute observation, if I do say so myself, but it's not really my problem that you can't look past a difference in order to acknowledge a similarity.
