Will Smith slaps Chris Rock at the Oscars

Where are we up to, not had chance to read the thread yet.

Do I need to destroy my DVD of Bad Boys, pray for Will’s temper to get better and thank our lucky stars that Chris Rock was a man, or was it a staged, pre-rehearsed scene created by two actors for maximum publicity effect?
All looked pretty staged until Smith started ranting at him when he sat down.

I knew that jada Smith was a slapper, but Will?...

The Smiths have a marriage open to anything.
Anything except jokes…

Fresh Prince of no hair.

I can't stand these arse licking award ceremonies, but surely if we're going to have them then people should be able to attend without fear of being publicly ridiculed and humiliated in what is supposed to be a night of celebration? If you've paid to watch an edgy comedian you might expect it, but I thought that comedian crossed the line in an environment he wasn't the main act. Also the poor woman shouldn't be embarrassed like that for a medical condition.

Poor Will Smith was caught between a rock and a hard place. You could see him trying to keep his composure, thinking, "I mustn't lose it" then thinking, "What the fuck am I doing??? This wanker deserves a slap,!" The comedian crossed the line with his "Joke" and Smith probably crossed the line with his reaction, but the comedian can't grumble he asked for it.

For those arguing that Will Smith defended his Wife. How many more people are now going to have seen the original joke because of Will's actions? How many more people are going to learn about their relationship issues and her extra marital affairs because of Will's actions?

He's just opened the entire family to 100 times more ridicule and embarrassment. So yeah short term he might have thought he was doing the right thing, but surely now everyone can see he's just completely fucked up.

It doesn't take guts to resort to violence in the face of verbal insults, quite the opposite.
People that resort to violence when confronted are as weak as piss.

if it was a pre rehearsed barb to put on a show at a show to honour how much ego they have all well and good it failed miserably and his stupidity continued to confirm he meant the slap and told the world what a self centred numpty he is.
his speech was unhinged and IMO he needs professional help and he can afford the best for sure and certain.

Yep. Will Smith rose to stardom in comedy shows and films. He must have been able to come up with a good comeback line in his speech where he would have for sure won against Rock more than he has now just resorting to violence.

I'm not sure he'll write much of his own dialogue in those shows and films to be fair.

I'm not sure he'll write much of his own dialogue and the danger is even if he did he'd get into a spat with someone way better experienced at comebacks.
Maybe true. Well he could have just called him out instead and said "I know your job is to make jokes about us tonight but joking about my wife's illness is not OK and you've crossed a line" and then got on with his acceptance speech. That would have been far more powerful and put all the spotlight on Chris Rock rather than himself.
