Will we ever be rubbish again?

It'll be nice to watch ene to end football again without knowing the result :-)

As long as we remember we were (in 80's and 90's) and can be shite again, then we're in a far better position, now, than the other 'istree boys, as we've experienced it in recent memory:

Liverpool, longest period without a trophy: 24 years (albeit 1 WW)
Arsenal, longest period without a trophy 27 years (albeit 1 WW)
Tottenham, longest period without a trophy 29 years (albeit 1 WW)
United, longest period without a trophy 36 years (albeit 2 WW's)

None have had a bad period recently, and sadly, probably won't have really long bad periods, ever again - the gap to the bottom relegation zone of the Premier league is now too big - it would take something very dire to send any of them and us down.

Won't be a problem for us. We've been shite on many occasions and we've coped with it. Those clubs who are finding shite for the first or only second time are having difficulty coming to terms with it. When our time comes we will be able to embrace it - and rejoice at the at the quality of footy from the last six or seven seasons!

I went to a cup tie at Maine Road many years ago against Leeds. It was in the days of Bishop etc. and they had Harry Kewell etc. It ended 5-2 or 4-1 to Leeds, something like that. I thought Leeds were fantastic, playing scintillating football. I remember thinking that even if we did get back to the premier league, how could we possibly compete against teams like that?

Not in my wildest dreams.........
Just goes to show.

Interesting thread, and makes you appreciate what we're witnessing right now.

I think FFP pretty much ensures we can only ever be a certain level of shit. United are horrifically ran currently, Arsenal were a right mess for the last 6 years. Their financial power ensures they'll never finish outside the top 10 but more likely 6.

I've not made room for Sheikh Mansour getting bored or the oil running out to be fair.

Depends how long it is until we're shite again. Hopefully most of those who can remember the previous bad times will be long dead
