Top 6 would be measurable progress.
However-the idea that we're playing less games due to not being involved in Europe is a bit of a smokescreen.
I would suspect our owners would like to be in with a shout of winning either domestic cup having no doubt allowed Hughes to have spent around 250 million by the time the new season gets underway ......hence,more games.
Hopefully.

Depends how much money is spent on whether 6th place will be a success. Judging that he has spent 100m (most of which panic buys - Bridge, Bellamy and De Jong) to take us backwards I really do wonder how much he'd have to spend to get us to 6th.....

top 6 and good run in cups, which doesnt mean getting knock out by the likes of notts f, brighton and h, doncaster, oldham, etc

5th is the minimum? So basically Hughes can't win then since we'll never have the overall squad quality to finish 4th. I guess he HAS to win a cup to keep you happy then...
Im sorry but 9th or 10th this season is a massive underachievement with the squad we have, 7th and Europa qualification would have been acceptable to most. If 7th would have been acceptable this season then only an improvement on that after a Summer of huge investment would be acceptable next season no?
As far as I am concerned we have a better team and squad than both Everton and Villa now so after Hughes has spent another £gazillion in the Summer not finishing above these teams next season can only be seen as a failure and considering that Everton usually finish 5th this is the position we should be achieving as a minimum! You have to remember that 5th position is the only guaranteed Europa spot for the following season so this should be our aim rather than relying on one of the top 4 winning the cups and giving us a helping hand!

Im sure their are many who will see finishing 8th as a success, as we will finish no higher than 9th this season.

As it looks like Hughes will be manager we have no hope whatsoever of top 6, the big 4 plus Tottenham, Everton and Villa without them doing something amazingly stupid, my guess is 8th.
