Willy Caballero - 2016/17 performances

I'd be interested to know, all these instances where the defence looked so much more comfortable vs West Ham than they did against a much better Spurs side.

There was a clear difference though, 2 actually.
The first being the clean sheet. Willy made no saves of any note.
The second being a noticeable reluctance of the defence to use the keeper under any real pressure. I would argue that this contradicts the common notion that the team lack confidence in Bravo but more than likely contributed to the clean sheet.

The front three deployed at West Ham & Palace work much harder and at a higher pace so the mindless lump was actually quite effective.

The system we've now returned to now, makes us so much better.

I don't think the change in goalkeeper has made any difference or is the reason behind keeping a clean sheet, though at Palace Caballero did make an excellent save and on balance you'd have to think Bravo doesn't save that because he's not managed to make many decent saves.

The pressing of the front three has made us more defensively solid. Delph covered a lot of ground v Palace which helped the balance of the side and though we were more open v West Ham we stifled them early and high up the pitch so our defence didn't have a huge amount to do.

The confidence in the side is a result of Jesus' arrival which has pumped the team up. The whole team seem to be bouncing off his confidence. Sane is on it, Sterling is playing well and Silva and Yaya are doing their jobs effectively. Delph and De Bruyne have both played well.

The main reason our defence looks better, in my opinion is because of the efforts the front three are putting in and secondly and equally important is the return of Vincent Kompany. He was a rock on Saturday and he's a huge influence off the field. If you're Otamendi or Stones you know one mistake and you're out.

Willy made good saves against Palace and West Ham. Routine for most goalies but Bravo just hasn't been making them. He is also more of a presence than Bravo and seems to communicate better with his defence. Keep Willy in the sticks and keep Bravo out of the spotlight for a few weeks and then reassess.

Very true.

Also, if you are Vinny and you've been out on the sidelines for a couple of months by Bravo, Willy is a pretty good option.

Lawrenson and Hansen are the best central
defensive pairing I've seen in my lifetime and they often stressed that confiednece comes from the keeper.

Much happier with him in goal.

Made a class save for the free kick.

Could have done better for the goal however he was unsighted and our defence did him no favours backing away from a prolific long range specialist.

The defence in general look more comfortable and composed with him in goal and I think that could be due to the psychological impact of knowing every mistake they make is likely to result in a goal when Bravo is in net.

I actually like Bravo and, like Willy did, hope he can turn his City career around.

Interesting, excuses made for the goal, wonder if Bravo would get those same excuses for him?

Played well in possession though, and a great save for the free-kick. Deserves to be our keeper as it stands - good for him, his passion makes him very likable.

Willy did ok today, and whilst we can never know for sure, in my opinion I don't think Bravo would have got to the Sigurdsson free kick, that was a great save.

He does seem to instil more confidence in the defenders as well.

You can guarantee if Bravo was in goal this thread would have another 30 pages by now.

Not that I blame Willy, he was unsighted by the offside player and the goal was Clichy's fault, it's just the double-standard which is annoying.
