Cameron Norrie, our number one, grew up in New Zealand and spent his junior career there. Andy Murray had a very determined mother who played tennis and for a while provided our only shining light. I always think of Dan Evens as being a bit of an outsider.
The BBC we see now is a different animal to the one we held dear, take it round the back and end it's days ;)
Did you get your tickets off Del Boy?Went once; late 80s. Bloody awful 0-0 draw.
Saw us play them a few times at Selhurst Park as well.
I don't think Harry Carpenter or Des Lynam ever actually played tennis either. Sue Barker is a very rare example of a successful player who transitioned into an excellent presenter.Wimbledon tennis starts tomorrow 3rd July. I thought I’d look at my Radio Times (other listings magazines are available) to see who is replacing Sue Barker.
Clare Balding ok fair enough she’s not unfamiliar with tennis and has covered Wimbledon for a few years alongside Sue. However I then see that ‘the faces of Wimbledon’ this year with Clare are Isa Guha and Qasa Alom. Fair enough I thought they must be ex-tennis players or have commentated but then I looked them up!
Isa is an ex-cricketer who has played for the England women’s team. No mention in the two bios I looked at of her ever playing tennis.
Qasa is a ‘YouTube filmmaker with a passion for climate change and sustainability’. Again no mention of tennis!
Now I’m sure they are both very good at their jobs but I’m also sure that there are tennis people who are very knowledgeable about tennis who are available!
Is it me or has the world gone mad? :-)
They'll be the presenters. The likes of McEnroe, Henman, Cash, Navratilova, Austin and others will be providing their analysis and observations during matches in the usual manner.Wimbledon tennis starts tomorrow 3rd July.
