I've just made 30 bottles of Zinfandel from a home brew kit,it's as good as Blossom Hill.it costs £52 to buy but it works out at less than £2 a bottle. The trouble is it's tempting having all that wine in the house.
Is it easy to do?

There's a few homebrew shops near me always fancied a go.

Yes very easy.the zinfandel kit I use has everything included in it, with some
other wines you have to add sugar but they all have everything else included.
You'll have to buy the equipment ie fermenting barrel or jars, airlocks etc but they aren't expensive. You would probably be better starting with a cheap six bottle kit so you can get the hang of it.

I was in Morrison's earlier and picked up a bottle of Rioja (Lagunilla) for a fiver. Normally £12.29 if anyone's interested. Drinking it now it's alright.

Got 3 bottles of that stuff the other day and really enjoyed it. They had another one on offer a few weeks back called Fairhills (shiraz i think) that was a belter.

I really like the Lindemans yellow label, used to get it on offer quite often last year but cannot justify paying £10 a bottle (especially when we need 3 of them for a quiet night in)

Cool mate. Know what you mean about the prices mind I guess you just cut the cloth accordingly. If I am feeling what I term flush i'd pay maybe £7-8 per bottle but that does me alone if I had more i'd shell out accordingly if the wine was right for me.

If I have a bit of money aside I probably prefer Wolf Blass white or red but Isla Negra from Chile is a decent red. You can't go too far wrong with Australian, South African or Californian. Chile's wines are quite decent.

-- Fri Apr 01, 2011 10:51 pm --

Are we all coming round to yours for a wine and cheese and biscuits night then?

With some inspirational speeches from BB2?

You'll have to bring your own cheese and biscuits.

As a general rule I go for the wine with the biggest price reduction, my theory being if it was expensive to start with it must be decent, But in all honesty I'd probably be just as happy drinking turps from a tramps boot...

Haha I do this too.

Supermarkets that reduce their pricey stuff for a while, are like drug dealers selling cheap wraps to get you hooked.....you get a taste for the good stuff, then they bang it back up to £12 a bottle....evil bastids..

Love Riojas, Malbecs and Pinotages meself.
