Winston Churchill

Yes and what because Cumia a man I wouldn't class as trustworthy says it was just a gag that got out of hand must be true.

McInnes is well known as a far right crank who has encouraged politican violence, bit twah he set up a group for a laugh to get some lad a shag.

Nothing in politics is innocent
I’m not denying they’re far right now or they’re not a very odd and currently dangerous group of people but the story in the video has been backed up.

It was a drinking club, that got out of hand.

Which we’ve seen before in Bavaria of all places.

Whoever moved this from the other older thread that was bumped for the OP to comment to create a new one has removed half the context of the previous discussion, where churchill was praised and given a fair assesment alongside other comments on his charactor and beliefs.

I wasn't gonna retype what was there when originally commenting today as already done on wjat was previous pages, but now this skews the whole topic to make it look like a churchill bashing thread.

As said context is key
Yeah, fair point. Apologies. The other thread was riddled with arguments that would inevitably kick off again, so thought it'd be easier to start afresh rather than just bumping an old thread. Will see if any of that thread, or the posts in the Brexit thread that prompted this discussion, can be salvaged to provide more context when I get a minute.

I'm sorry mate. I simply searched for churchill and posted in the first one I found. I should have started a new one. Apologies.

I think it's possible to be a racist, a homophobe, a transphobe, a sexist and whatever else and still be a national hero.

Churchill was undoubtedly that.
It is also possible to be a national hero and be criticised and analysed, he is certainly not beyond reproach. He was reckless, impatient, rude, obnoxious and like Johnson he was an egotist and great believer in his own destiny. He was an Imperialist which no doubts adds to his allure for Little Englanders who dream of the Globe being pink and everyone knowing their place under the boot of British exploitation. He joined the Army as he thought it would be good fun to fight against the barbaric tribes of the Empire. He was an early advocate of concentration camps, they were used in the Boer war and he liked to boast, just like Johnson boasts, although Churchill boasted about killing savages.

Nonetheless, he was the right leader at the time and he did the right things too mostly. He made mistakes like Narvik and more notably in WW1 Gallipoli, he loved to sacrifice troops in order to sate his desires for glory.

Was he ****, yes he was a cunting bastard, but he was our cunting bastard and for deeds done should be venerated, however it does sicken me to see the far right use him as an icon of Britishness, he was antifa to the core.
