Winter comfort food

I got up at the crack of 1030am this morning (Fri) and made a bacon buttie with a brew. I browned off some of the toughest ugliest looking stweing steak you have ever seen in the same pan and chucked in the slow cooker with a packet of casserole veg and a can of guinness. Went for a pint about 7pm and forgot about it and just got in now to a lovely surprise. Boiling up some tattis ans just taken the top off a bottle of red while they simmer. Slow cookers rock, Id actually forgotten all about it and it smells and tastes gorgeous

Winter comfort food?

You need to book a trip to Lancashire and find out what that means pal

Hot hamburger.
A hamburger patty on top of a piece of bread. covered in gravy and fried onions and served with mashed potatoes and peas & carrots.

Toss the bread, swap the burger for mince or mutton and you're not far off being a true Northerner! Top marks for the gravy.

I havent looked the thread, as I am too pissed and dont really care anyway. But i trust that many posters have mentioned Tater Ash. Since I left Manchester years ago I have never had a delight like it, but tonights slow cooked effort has brought back some lovely memories and is close enough for now. Really wish it has some fresh bread from Martin's on Lord Lane in Failsworth though
