Witsel, Vertonghen, De Bruyne

well, i watched a video of De Bruyne, and all his goals (in the video) were from 30 yards or more, and the ball hit the post before it went in...
Is this guy really good, or just another Kolarov in the making?

Don't agree with the previous description of Witsel on here. In my opinion not at all the same mould of player.
De Jong is a much better DM that adds bite to the midfield. Witsel is a dynamic midfielder who's much more comfortable going forward than De Jong tho but not as effective in protecting the backline. At Standard de Liege he forms a midfield pairing with Defour and he's ten times the player when Defour is on the field because with Defour sitting back and playing as a deep sitting playmaker, doing the architectural work of the team, Witsel has the freedom to make runs upfield and he has a great talent of picking out good runs and thus creating opportunities. Imo he's a great allround player who is very comfortable with the ball at his feet and has the ability to beat a man with his technical abilities and speed, something a player like Barry misses.

With Fellaini absent due to injury these past months, Witsel was given the opportunity to play up top in a 3 man midfield with 2 DM's covering him and he has been Belgium's best player in the last 4 games.
Could form a nice midfield trio with Yaya and De Jong tho. With De Jong sitting back allowing Witsel and Yaya to infiltrate through the midfield.

As for De Bruyne, he's a great talent. But not yet ready for the EPL. He's now playing as a left winger but his preferred position is AM. With his great range of passes and cracking shot he could become quite the player but I think he's the kind of player that would benefit from going to a team like Ajax to hone his skills before moving on to a team in England or Spain.

I couldn't have made a better description of Witsel's playing position. His scoring ability is indeed much higher than De Jong. I think he could perform well in the City squad.

Of the players mentioned here, I've only seen Witsel a couple of times. Broadly speaking, though, it makes me far happier to think that we're scouting promising young players in Benelux, as opposed to spunking fortunes on the likes of Kaka or Sneijder.

If Tevez goes, for instance, I would be genuinely content with Dzeko and Balotelli rotating, and Lukaku as the understudy.

A much nicer thread than the Messi/Ronaldo/Sneijder powerwanking that goes on elsewhere on these boards ;)

Vertonghen is a natural CB who can play at LB like Joleon.

Imagine if Lescott had the ability to put in awesome crosses and freekicks. Then make him shite in the air and fall over from a stiff breeze and you have Vertonghen.
