Wolves (H) - Post-Match Thread

Wolves have only themselves to blame.

I’m not one to say football HAS to be played in a certain way, but their defensive approach is just not successful in modern football in terms of developing a team or being successful, not a shocker they’ve had boring 0-0s with Norwich and Burnley recently. Both Villa and Palace actually played against us and one of them got a result, it is possible to play good football against good teams.

Now they are in 8th place while being 19th in goals scored. It is an approach to “survive” and has recently infected La Liga to be a boring league.
Wolves at best are a midtable team playing the champions of England.

What do you want them to do? Play an open attacking game and get hammered?

They do what they can, all that matters to them is to get to 40 points as quickly as possible and then build on that.

We could start by stopping these infernal short corners. If we can't score from open play, then make the most of corners. We have some good heading players who might have put a few in the bag. One way to beat negative teams like Wolves ... set plays. It's not route one, our good play earns such as corners. Once Phil came on, actually took some proper corners.

Gundogan is some player but takes a crap corner. Grealish took a beauty in one game and hasn't taken one since. Phil is a much better option.

Nothing wrong with playing defensive. What pisses me off is falling over at the slightest touch, time wasting and feigning injury. The officials should make them stay off the pitch for the same amount of time they had “treatment”. If that happened they would be on their feet in no time. The useless fat lump in charge allowed all these underhand tricks to go on until he suddenly found sense with the red card.

Wolves were an appalling excuse for a football team.

I might be wrong (not the first time), but the way the pitch quickly slopes away at the corners makes it harder to whip in a corner than if the run up was flat. Be interested to see the stats on how many goals are scored from corners at the Etihad compared to other PL grounds

Time assisting is part and parcel of the game, the ones to stop it are the officials.

Wolves are better than what they attempted yesterday. That was worse than any anti football display I have ever seen at the Etihad including Burnley, Newcastle or Pullis' WBA and Palace teams of the past. They were aided and abetted by the worse Premier League referee in history. Does that arsehole Moss, nor any of the Wolves management realise that gave was televised to every corner of the globe yesterday, and as the only game at that time it would have been the game that was watched. The Premier League should look at fining teams like Wolves for non football performances like that when all they did was feign injury and waste time. A boxing promoter would withhold a fight purse from a boxer who showed no interest in trying to make a match and prior to that the referee would halt the bout as a bloody non contest.

Just a shocking game and God help the Wolves supporters if that is what their new manager is serving up each week.

‘Th£ Product’ is the only thing the Premier League are bothered about & your point about the game being televised around the world is spot on. What happened to letting the game flow? No soft free kicks & Booking players on their second/third foul (unless a blatant yellow). All initiatives introduced this season to help the attraction of our game. As per the PL where looking to create the drama out of a negative result for us, thus appealing to their red whores. This backfired when they backed themselves into a corner by not giving the first handball, once fatty Moss had blown for a pen there was no way VAR could over rule it (even though they tried). As for Wolves, they have invented a new time wasting tactic which we are unfortunately gonna see a lot more of at the Etihad, take an age to recover the ball, keeper places it & instructs for a long kick, before feigning a pass to 3-4 different players (nothing new there) then playing a two yard pass to the defender, who squares it, then out to the FB who returns it, the CB gives it his mate who launches it, all to add 10 seconds to the minute they’ve already wasted, can’t remember them playing out once

Call a spade, a spade. It was anti-football and cheating. They over did it. MOTD claimed Jimenez was unlucky to get his first yellow but not by the standards the ref had set when he booked City players. He fouled Rodri twice.

I don't accept that football is by any means necessary when you have the resources that Wolves have.

State of our finishing though.
Never mind signing a striker, the standard from all the other players was outrageously ridiculous.
Today also demonstrated why Gabriel Jesus is also 100% dispensable.
A grafter but so was Adrian Heath. So far below the required standard it is almost laughable

His goals vs Chelsea and PSG were indispenable, though. As was his assist vs Liverpool. Generally, no City player has contributed more goals/assists than Jesus this season.

That comment was pretty dispensable. A grafter BUT has most goal involvements this season, including the big games!
