Wolves - post match

Our defence:-
  • Ederson - Stop doing stupid things we need you.
  • Bravo - Not good enough.
  • Carson - How old is he?
  • Walker - Best fullback by a country mile.
  • Cancelo - Not seen enough but not sure he is happy at the Club.
  • Laporte - Please come back soon and stay fit.
  • Otamendi - A mistake in waiting.
  • Stones - Injury prone and unreliable.
  • Garcia - Promising but lacking a bit of height.
  • Angelino - Not sure why we brought him back not good enough.
  • Mendy - A huge disappontment, the injuries have finished him.
So a starting defence of Ederson, Walker, Laporte plus two midfielders to fill in is about all we have to offer. Simply not good enough to challange at the highest level.
That’s about right.

I thought he was OK too. Lots of our defenders were just clearing their penalty area but he was passing it and most of the time finding a man. Crazy decision making at the end. He knows it.
The ball didn't look like it had enough legs to even go out so that was a criminal error by him.

There was one moment where we had three attempts to clear the penalty area and didn't manage it any of those three times. And on our right, we cleared the ball a number of times but it fell to Wolves players when we should be putting it out for a throw, which at least forces play further away from goal & gives us a few seconds to reset our formation instead of allowing the opposition to come straight back at us.

BTW I said that if we don't contain Traore we lose the game. That is what happened.
As to the sending off of Ederson, how can any VAR official not see that the Wolves player went for the contact.
Ederson sold himself, it was poor judgment he had next to no chance of getting to the ball first, any keeper doing that leaves himself wide open to what happened.

The KdB sub cost us the match.

The penalty was our downfall, after that Riley felt compelled to give them anything and everything which helped heap pressure on the defence. Mendy did a Gary Neville and fed the hench goater.

I was texting a mate at work after the game last night, a York City fan with no agenda. I’d had a beer and was fuming but said that only 12 would survive the cull for me. I’ve looked back at my text this morning and find it difficult to add anyone to the list.

What cull?

Pep himself said when Laporte got injured that Walker can play center back..so why not go with him and Cancelo at right back?

Excellent summary.

City would in most situations defend by keeping ball possession but we are tired and have a fractured defence so we opted just to defend the box. Ahd the title been on the line I don't think we'd have switched off.

Mendy needs to make the right decisions on the pitch. Hopefully that is a learning experience. He's a very good player. Whether he can return to his best we have to see. I thoguth he was fouled too.

It's strange watching City play now. We all know the team has a big fracture in the defence and we've not been like that for years. It's temporary though. I thought Laporte was the best defender in the Premier League before he was injured. When he returns, Stones can play off him. And City will be back.
Had you until you said mendy is a good player.

Two of our back four are not good enough (Otamendi and Mendy) and Fernandinho is still a huge loss when he's not played in midfield.

We desperately lack leadership, someone to drive the team on and someone with a bit of aggression. Fernandinho can't do this in the same way in defence as every foul leads to a dangerous set piece. I understand why KDB was taken off, he'll probably start all the games over the festive period but we're a shadow of the team without him.

I think I'm in the minority that doesn't rate Zinchenko at left back, but having said that he's done far better over the last few years than Mendy and Angelino have this season. Time to give him a run in the team.

We have become easy to play against. Long balls over the top or teams adopting a direct style against us are ripping us apart far too easily. Leicester were poor against us but still managed to score in exactly that way, although it was a great finish by Vardy.

If we're to challenge in the cups and put any kind of run together in the league we need to do something in this transfer window. Laporte is still out and it may take him some time to get back on form after being out so long. A centre back should be an immediate priority.

Not read the thread but I've been fuming since I left the ground and am really struggling to explain it.
First Wolves are a very good team. Of course they are. That's why they needed us to gift them two chances to beat ten men. Clearly the sign of a very good team.
We've had no pace in the middle of defence all season so it only needs a single decent pass to leave us open. Leicester, rags, Chelsea and Wolves spring to mind.
Once we were two up it should have been a case of keeping possession or hoofing it up field or into touch rather than taking risks. But no, no, no, City don't do that so we gave it away twice and finally this "good" Wolves team came up with something of their own to win it. And we still might have saved a point at the death.
We now have to spend a day and a half hoping they've not knackered themselves out before another hard working team come to town tomorrow.
We have to strengthen in January to avoid putting top four at risk.
The only good bit was Garcia's performance. As for Mendy what the fuck was he thinking? And if anybody is defending that suicidal fuck up, please remember we've spent over seventeen years laughing at Gary T. Goat-feeder for doing something similar.

Fuck sake Wolves celebration is like they’ve won the PL when in reality they have struggled to beat a 10 Man City team
This attitude is something that’s wrong with our support.

Too fucking right they should be celebrating like that!

Winning football matches is huge, winning from being 0-2 down late on is huger, that being against the back-to-back champions is huger still.

What do you want them to do? Do what our fans do and just walk out en mass no matter what the fucking score with ten minutes to go? Or what our players do and just fuck off up the tunnel no matter what the game or how good our fans have been, even at away games?

It’s like our entire club from fans to players to boardroom don’t give a shit about each other. Too many fans don’t support the team (turning up to games is not the sum total of supporting a team), the players don’t appreciate the fans that do support the team and the support is rewarded with huge price hikes every season seeing thousands of our support drift away.

If our fans players and board started to give a shit about each other we might get excited about winning football matches or even just scoring goals!

At the moment we’re drifting as a club and fanbase, winning trophies doesn’t make us a good club!

It's not every day you watch your side pass on their title to another side.

I wish it had gone toe to toe and I think it would have done had we not lost Laporte. Now we're entering every game with self doubt and every opponent knows City have a weakness which they can play for. I am really glad that Laporte is back at Carrington. Presumably he will be back with the group soon enough.

When Laporte returns, then battle commences. This has been damage limitation for 5 months, and we have done a poor job.

We should be grateful that SPurs, Chelsea, Arsenal, Man Utd are so poor. There is only one great side in the league at the moment, but City will be back. It's one player. We'll be back soon enough.

I like your optimism but you make Laporte seem like a mix of Bobby Moore, Franz Beckenbauer and Franco Baresi.

Against Spurs in the CL at home we had a back four of Walker, Kompany, Laporte and Mendy. And Son had the fredom of the park. It is not one player it´s the way Pep´s teams defend or should I say don't.

The Bayern semi finals with Barca and Madrid were absolutely shambolic. They lost 4-0 at home to Madrid!! Perhaps more surprising than the defensive naivety was the fact that in the 3 Away games, the third tie was against Atletico, Bayern failed to score.
