Women's Football Thread 2024/2025

Only hope whoever is appointed :

Has extensive knowledge of top women’s football

Is a good communicator

has been a winner of trophies at the top level

And is regarded by top players as a good choice so as to encourage existing top players to stay and other top players to want to sign for city

Or put another way, somebody who is nothing like Gareth Taylor :)

Don't know whether anybody else has picked up on this...

In an idle moment I wondered what our non-European players might be up to this summer.

Kerolin's got Copa America finishing a week later than the Euros.
Bunny looks like she's got the summer off. The next CONCACAF equivalent is in November 2026 (so we may lose her then if she signs a contract extension).

But this is the kicker - the Asian Cup is March next year. So that's a whole month (probably 6 weeks with preparation etc) without Yui and her mates. Okay, there will be a bit of an overlap with an international break in Europe, but there will be some fixtures they will be missing.

One hopes the club will take this into account with transfer policy. We don't want to be overly reliant on Asian (or Australian) players.

100% Chloe Kelly doesn't re-sign? My daughter wants her on the back of her England shirt, however I've seen Kelly is holidaying with a Rag so I've got a feeling she might end up there - hence holding off getting her on the back of her shirt.

Given the way she thinks she was treated by the club, I'd be amazed if she re-signs

No chance she's coming back here.

She did another interview for ITV where the context was she's in a better place and getting more celebrity deals etc

She's supposedly in talks with Arsenal. I'd be surprised if she doesn't end up there.

She's been going there since she left for me, small chance she may go to arsenal after they won the CL, but she wanted united all along for me.

Possibly, however I can see her signing with Arsenal too. Her family is in London. If I remember correctly, she and Lotte Wubben-Moy are good friends. I seem to remember her saying they used to take the train together to training sessions.

Arsenal, to me, suits her game better than the brute ball the ragettes play.

I'd rather her go there than united (marginally), but I don't really care, she was poor for us for 18 months, and it wasn't all down to Taylor imho.

If your daughter likes the player, who cares who she plays for? :)

I do haha! I wouldn't want her having Rashford on the back of a shirt just like I wouldn't want her having any Ragette on there.

Plus her grandad "supports" United so will use it as a "she'll be supporting United next" nonsense that I can't be bothered with

Yeah but if the player has PLAYED for the club then surely there’s no issue? Rashford never played for City so that would be a bit odd. Maybe having Kelly on the new kit is a bit different since she never actually wore that kit.. but you wouldn’t catch me burning my Hasegawa, Casparij and Miedema shirts when they move on to another club ;)

Fair point about the grandad haha

It's a different scenario. In your example it would be if my daughter already had a City shirt with Kelly on the back and she then moved to United. We're not just talking about another club - it's our rivals. Not sure your age or situation, but I grew up in the late 80s/90s and had to take so much abuse from those twats, I had bottles and bricks thrown at me walking out of Maine Road by them. I wouldn't want my kids to have any association to them, even indirectly.

Would a rag get an Argentina shirt with Tevez on the back?

Fair enough mate. You do you :)

Kelly was focused almost exclusively on her media profile and product endorsements after the Euros and City were clearly second best in her view. Her performances were poor both last year and this and it was better for all concerned that she moved on.
