It also shows the disparity between the men's and the women's game.

If Dan Burn scored the winner for England in a cup final he'd be set for life.

Bit of a problem that the WSL attendances are down 10% from last season, there seems to be a lot of larger attendances in "event" type games but nothing thereafter.

It's hard to see how the game can draw many more punters .

Perhaps due to Chelski winning the league and most other things, year in year out and making it boring ?

Surely not, as only City create that effect !

It might help if they scheduled matches at sensible times for family viewing. Just shifting the home deby to a Sunday night cost us about 20,000 in attendance. So a couple of thousand off the average from the season before. We also have the problem of season ticket holders not turning up. A couple of sold out games last season, that I wanted to take daughter to, yet on the tele there were loads of empty seats. The League Cup Final at Derby, on yhe same day as a city men's home match. City fans cant be in two places at one and lots like to attend both. No common sense at all in some of the scheduling decisions.

Most people can barely afford to watch the mens games, I doubt the pool of fans are going to come from people watching them.

This.

The most ludicrous example of that was a potential PL decider against West Ham (the one where it would have effectively been done+dusted if Mahrez had scored a penalty) kicking off 30 minutes before the FA Cup final against Chelsea (the last one we've reached).

It's not just City though, this is league wide.
Yes... the WSL is not helped by at least 6 of the 12 teams knowing a) they are not finishing top 3 and b) they are not getting relegated.
I was glad London came up this year as I think they will put up more of a fight than Bristol City or Palace.

I think I've said elsewhere, that the WSL might be better adopting a play-off system (a la rugby) to decide the winners. Arsenal who finished 2nd this year were basically done title-wise after 5 matches. We were pretty much done when we lost to Everton at the half-way point.

Are we even being linked with a new manager? What's going on?
It was reported that Denmark's manager was lined up to take over. They then lost 6-1 to Sweden, so we may be having pause.

As long as the coaching staff is sorted by the end of July there shouldn't really be any rush, as I don't think there'll be much player movement until the Euros is done.

The seven a side experiment they did in Portugal maybe the way to go?

We were going to go to that but ended up watching it on the dodgy stick. It looked dead! Barely anyone there, a shame really.
If like to see BBC or ITv replicate that here.

Co-op arena. For couple of days.

City
Raggettes
Chelsea
Arsenal

And a couple of guests. Being on free TV and offering cheap tickets it would go down well as a family day out.

The clubs/league treating it more like an actual football competition with loyalties and rivalries rather than a day-out for the kids to go to once or twice would be a massive help.

Don't know if we're the worst offenders for it but find it hard to believe I'm the only person put off by it and I'm a season-ticket holder! Don't think it's a coincidence that Arsenal are bucking the trend attendance-wise and don't just do the 'family-friendly' angle

I think average attendances don't always tell the whole story though.

I'm guessing that Bristol City going down and being replaced by Crystal Palace had a big impact here. Bristol had one of the highest average attendances in Europe at 7k and Palace's were poor (not helped by them playing in Sutton).

On top of that, we saw Arsenal's attendances plateau. The permanent move to the Emirates made the emirates games less of a novelty so instead of getting 50-60k for those it settled around 30-40k last season. Still huge numbers and I think and they will build from there.

There was always going to be a slow in interest now the post euros hype has died down but overall the general direction of movement will be upwards.

That said, I do find our own attendances kind of concerning. They are nowhere near what they should be compared to other teams.

Should the games be played at a different time of the year? Competing with men's football is never going to grow the game not only because it's different but because of people being able to afford to watch both.

Looking at the stats for Arsenal as an example 65% of people attending never attended the Emirates before, that's a staggering statistic really.

3,500 against Liverpool one week and 35,000 against the same side a week or so later. Highest attended match 46,000 and their lowest 3,500 which is absolutely bonkers.

I think tourists as in people who are just visiting London are attending, there could be no other possible explanation for their attendance anomalies.

Well they tried it as a summer sport already but made the decision it was best to move it back to winter.

Personally I don't think it's a massive problem both versions being played same time of year. I don't think the womens game gains much by going out of it's way to accommodate and appeal to fans of the men's. I have noticed at the Emirates that you get a lot of fans of Arsenal men down there on as the men are obvs playing away. Better scheduling across the two versions might help accommodate that for other clubs but scheduling is already difficult as it is.

But that aside, I'm not sure there's there's that much of a competing audience. I watch both men and women but I find most of the fans in the womens don't watch much men's and vice versa. A lot of clubs have ditched the messaging around the "one club mentality" (except for Arsenal who, as annoying as they are, are q good at that)
