Only the Cup to play for now. Hopefully come the summer we can look at a couple of top signing (hopefully not PR stunts or "England International"), maybe another striker and maybe someone in midfield that can control a game ?
Ever though we went on a run of winning games, we didn't show up for the important ones, ie Chelsea at home , let them escape with a draw that costed us the league in truth, and Barcelona away, where we just looked scared too death.

Chelsea. 16 shots, 9 on target, 5 goals
Us, 21 shots, 6 on target, 1 goal, 2 missed penaltie
s

finishing is woeful for men’s/women’s teams, has a club ever missed so many penalties in a season before.

Good thing Chelsea won today, can you imagine losing on goal difference due to missing 2 penalties and so many chances
That typifies our season, particularly the start and the last few games, and just shows why CFC have done what they needed to do. They have strikers who don't need a dozen chances to put one away. And is there another team in the WSL who have missed two pens in one game. No doubt GT will be delighted with the performance. Well, I would suggest that those kind of performances, no matter how much running around there's been won't pack out The Academy Stadium.

As No 1 fan of the Rose of Cincinatti I would rather humbly and meekly point out that we finally score not long after Rose gets on the pitch. Against this team we need players who will play forward passes for a starter.
In all fairness, it should have been 5-0 at least by then, plenty of chances created by the team before she got on.

I am not down on her, I think she is a cracking player but unfortunately, it has only been evident in the US team and very sporadically for us, if she was bossing training she would be in the team, it really is that simple.

I'm a big fan of Mewis as well but her pen was equally poor tbh and her form has tailed off a lot from earlier in the season.

Yer right, Alf. It's just frustrating to see a team full of talent not performing the way the talent should. We need to practise ball control - the number of passes that just bounced off a boot, and the number of passes that just did nothing to drag WH out of position but met the mantra of possession, possession, possession. The last few games despite winning them, apart from the CFC game, just lacked fizz and dynamism. I think we don't frighten teams any more. Admittedly, the defending of most WSL teams has improved tremendously, and we have seen that the teams we have played from well down the league have not been over-run until they're out on their last legs. I also think we have missed the Steph Houghton's informative and advisory 'gob' at the back, too!

Second 5 years on the bounce I believe, that fucking draw with Utd when again they should have been dead and gone by half time cost us the title in effect, on top of the poor finishing for most of the season.

Maybe I'm in the wrong here but considering it was the first season under Taylor, going up against the juggernaut of Chelsea, it wasn't too bad.

It seemed as well we lost the most ground early on too when it would've been expected.

It's not perfect and losing Mewis will be a blow but I don't think the team is that far behind Chelsea. If it were not for 1 brilliant save from the Chelsea keeper the title could've come our way.

small margins

small margins
Don't get me wrong. I'd be much happier if we were on the good side of those margins. But all things considered I don't think it's that awful being close enough to lose out by those margins, as opposed to being way off.

Next season being the second under Taylor will be the big test for me.

I agree, it's been a good season overall.

Can somebody explain why the second penalty wasn't retaken ? Since when has doing that been allowed by a keeper, poor refereeing, not that it mattered.

They looked jaded today, but not surprisingly, as they knew Chelsea would win at home.

We certainly dominated that first half and the game should have been well and truly over by half time but we would have had to have won by 7 clear goals to finish above Chelsea. The 0-0 at home to Brighton, a team we beat 7-1 at their place, in the second match of the season was the more costly of the two draws. Then we were poor at Chelsea ...

Indeed, I was just saying it is small margins, costly finishing against the rags have cost us equal points, could we have scored more goals undoubtedly so, Taylor does have some work to do moving forward, it will be interesting to see who we replace the Americans with, I am hoping Park gets a little more game time, got a bit pushed out this season for me

If Chelsea drew, a 3-0 win was all we needed to take it on goals scored but you are correct with the Brighton game, very costly indeed.

Because they can do what they like against us, blind eyes all about the place when we are involved.

Good season overall for City Women - we took an age to get going and that's certainly what cost us the league - we also need a stronger mentality in big games - allowed Barcelona to dominate us when we were possibly the better side. Need to be firing from the opening weekends next season and certainly need to convert more chances.

We need to be more ruthless up front and I can only assume that Mewis and Lavelle will return to the US - so we have an opportunity to bring in a couple of excellent players to bolster the squad. Hope Kelly recovers okay because she is phenomenal. I know Taylor has his critics but he's certainly done enough to earn another season.
