Not surprising really I guess. Think her only chance of breaking back in is showing some good form when the WSL starts again. But she's going to be 35 at the next world cup and we're seeing her generation of Lionesses like Bardsley, White and Scott stepping back now. I expect if she'd made the Euros squad she'd be seriously thinking about retiring too. It's heartbreaking for her to have missed out on that tournament having been captain for so long and then seeing her long time team mates finally get that medal.
She should have been in the squad, it was scandalous to drop her completely imo

All about the 'armband'

It was really harsh on her but I don't think it was personal and you can't really argue with how it all went down in the end. I think it didn't help her that Wiegman decided to move Williamson back into central defence from midfield as it put Houghton even further behind in the pecking order (and was unfortunate for Greenwood too who'd also done really well in that position and ended up benched). I felt Houghton had a lot to offer in terms of experience and leadership but maybe with the likes of Scott in the squad they felt they had enough. My sentimental side hates that she was left out but I'm not going to complain about any of Wiegman's calls as i think she got all of the big calls right.

i put it in another thread, ah well , we offloaded the aircraft that brought the ladies back from madrid, we had to take the huge amount of bags, cases and equipment to the coach, and all the backroom staff helped us load the coaches taking them back, they didn't have to, but much appreciated ta ladies team :)

She won the thing so it would be a poor do to woman about it too much lol

I just feel sorry for Steph, who has been an excellent player for City and England and IMO is still better than Williamson and Bright.

I think Bright is somewhat overrated. I've seen Rose Lavelle absolutely eat her alive on a few occasions. That said, Lavelle can do that to most players. Gareth Taylor would never know though.

Nikita Parris and Bethany England were in that England squad!!!
Absolutely beggars belief - both hopeless and contribute Fuck All to the squad. Both have winners medals……FFS!!!
Steph Houghton has been treated like shite by Wiegman.
Hege Riise did exactly the same to Beth Mead. Unlike Steph, Mead stayed fit, was younger and managed to get back into the squad under Wiegman.
Steph and Jill Scott need to be involved with MCFC Womens team coaching NOW…
Jayne Ludlow has done very little of obvious value. Gareth Taylor even less.

Houghton spent the season with a serious injury and the others did not. She was a given a chance to show her fitness pre tournament but Wiegman didn't think she was q ready and/or felt she wasn't required (Houghton insisted she was though). City still don't seem to think she's ready as they haven't been starting with her either. Was absolutely gutted for Houghton but there are more feasible explanations for her omission beyond her being weirdly victimised for no apparent reason.
