Steph Houghton left out again…..WTF. This coach really does hate her. Jess Carter, Niamh Charles and Lotte Wubben-Moy are vastly inferior, cannot read a game, disasters waiting to happen with late tackles and offer fuck all in long passes and free kicks. They are poor.
This coach is going to be seriously found out in this tournament. Never once picked her best 11 in the Euros and constantly bailed out by ‘impact subs’.Quality of opposition was poor and other teams missing key players.
Midfield looks particularly poor - no genuine creativity. No ‘impact subs’. The poor quality of the other teams will probably get them to a semifinal.

Can we honestly say Steph has done enough to warrant inclusion?

I'm not sure.

Also, obviously when she was captain she'd have had a big influence over the squad and sometimes when the captain changes for whatever reason, it can be slightly awkward reintegrating someone in a lesser role. Depends on how she'd accept being backup and also how the rest would react to her.

Maybe the coach just wants backups who are younger (and probably quicker), so that they have the experience for when the following tournament comes round. Picking Steph would have been a short-term solution, with no guarantee of working.

Shame for her, but it's not a huge shock.

Delighted Steph has renewed, she was in great form when she came back in to the team last season and looks a class above most other women players with the ball at her feet. Well worth another year and beyond that she must come into the coaching setup for the future.

Still pissed off Wiegman has discarded her from the England setup.

That's down to the club obviously, but none of them have had one until after they've left, and for now she's staying, so maybe a bit of a premature question ?

Agree. I wasn’t expecting her to get one tomorrow, mate. :-D

Just making the point that she’s been fantastic for the women’s team on and off the pitch and ticks every box for a ‘statue candidate’.

Bet no other club has done this for a female player. (I could be wrong though).

Not at all my friend. Fair play to Arsenal.

However, she’s only played just over 90 games for them and only been there 6 years.

Makes the case for Steph even more obvious if you ask me.

Tbf it mentions its temporary and was commissioned by Adidas. A proper one for Steph seems a good idea once she retires. It'll be over 10 years by then, whilst being a leader - she definitely qualifies in my eyes.

A couple of things struck me from the Houghton extension interview (and also the recent Shaw one too). Firstly it seems like we're being prepped for a Gareth Taylor extension announcement in the near future. And secondly it seems to pointedly mention the harmony and togetherness in the current squad. Not sure if I'm reading too much into it but it doesn't seem like the usual run of the mill "we're all in this together & It's a great bunch" type of statement. More like a dig at some ego's having departed over the last year or so.

I agree - the talking up of the ever incompetent Taylor is ongoing. Numerous players have said positive things about him in interviews - directly contradicting what many of them say in private. Taylor has failed to deliver, the squad is not harmonious and the extension of his contract will only result in another poor season - we won’t win a league title with him at the helm - and there will be more high profile departures. Really don’t understand why the club doesn’t appoint a decent coach and push on with the Women’s team.

I'm really pleased for Steph Houghton who is a City and England legend.

Especially with the shoddy, disrespectful treatment she has had from England boss Sarina Wiegman who has messed her around before discarding her like a load of old trash. There's ways of moving on but that isn't a decent way of doing it - setting targets then moving the goal posts. Poor.

We love Steph at City and treat her with respect. Unlike Wiegman.

Steph is a great inspiration by her example and leadership to my daughter and many other girls and women who play.
