Work For Dole

For anyone who thinks it's a good idea, where do the people who have their benefit stopped for 4 weeks get money to survive?
They'll just commit crimes instead.

Put a tag on them and curfew 7pm till 8am or just chop their arms off, they get stitched back on as soon as they've found a job.

Don't give the tories any more ideas!

and become homeless.
Can't see many of those buy-to-let landlords who make a mint out of the unemployed giving their tennants 6 months rent-free until their HB is reinstated.

It's just another unworkable, empty threat to satisfy reactionary people. The threat to young single mothers never came to fruition either. When somebody pointed out that if a young mum had a malnourished child due to her benefits being cut, it made them think that the general public might view them as a little uncaring and spiteful.

at fuckin last, no able bodied person should be out of work for 2 years unless theyre lazy arses. Or maybe theyre working for cash & signing on.
if you go to Byron Bay or parts of the Gold Coast here there are loads of surfers who have never worked, some of them are old guys as well, just living of taxpayers like me, no responsibilities, just collect theyre dole every fortnight and catch a wave.

yes don't blame the lack of work , blame the "lazy" worker. "Why sit at home when you can be working at Gregg's or even a jd sports for 4.25 an hour"

As far as working for cash and signing on .. ".. I need more than food and rent"

And you talk about someone who's been able to work the system to chill and hang out at a beach all day like its a bad thing. I'd trade that for all the fun rewarding work I've done in my life right now!

If its full-time work they should work for a full-time wage, not dole.

Absolutely they should ...... to expect people to work 30 hours for an estimated £2 an hour , is out of order in my view.

If the government can suddenly find 'work' for the long term unemployed , then why can't they find them jobs ?????

Would Osborne or Smith work under these conditions ??? Would they fuck is the answer !

Hear's a bit of radical thinking outside the box but how about we look at why the system has failed them so far? Perhaps farming them out to private companies who are paid by results and therefore are inclined to the cream of the best candidates and park the basket cases in the corner with the crayons and paper.

Sadly haven watched a number of program such as the one on channel 4 called the Fairy Job Mother had a very nice but bolshy helping people back into work, would tell you just by taking away the carrot and more of the stick does not work for everyone. Thanks to those lovely folk at ATOS there are number or people who were on the sick who are now being caught up in this cycle.

I'm not saying that leaving them on the sick is right but pushing someone who has mental health, or alchol or drug (or both) issues back into work without support is never gonna work. Unfortunately the Thatcherite ideology of giving a kick up the arse and telling them to pick themselves by the boot straps does not work for everyone.

-- Mon Sep 30, 2013 1:47 pm --

Trust me I'm no tory but I don't understand what the fuss is about. Have people actually read in to the policy?

Compulsory community work doesn't come in to play until after 2 years of being on the work programme. Then according to the BBC...

These people are expected to either join a training scheme, take part in a Mandatory Work Activity placement or undergo intensive work preparation.

2 years is a long time to be unemployed.

Not these days it isn't .....

this is an age where foreign labour has swept up a great deal of jobs our own people would once have taken , there is little about to be had , even if you're highly skilled or qualified ....... and it will only get worse ......... times have changed , and there are now many genuine people long term unemployed , both young and old .

Careful, the lefties on here will start spouting the mythical bullshit that foreigners do the jobs Brits don't want to do.

Pisses me off though. My Romanian housemate who finished her University degree ages a go is now moaning at how long the job application is for a permanent role at her work. Part of me hopes a Brit wins that job.
