Not these days it isn't .....

this is an age where foreign labour has sept up a great deal of jobs our own people would once have taken , there is little about to be had , even if you're highly skilled or qualified ....... times have changed , and there are many genuine people long term unemployed.

Careful, the lefties on here will start spouting the mythical bullshit that foreigners do the jobs Brits don't want to do.

Pisses me off though. My Romanian housemate who finished her University degree ages a go is now moaning at how long the job application is for a permanent role at her work. Part of me hopes a Brit wins that job.

I've nothing against good , and effective , foreign labour , but it was always gonna seriously reduce the number of jobs available to our own people ... and 'age discrimination' too is another problem , it's still far too plentiful in the work industry , even though it 'legally' shouldn't be ..... i know there are are many who have absolutely no intention of working , and it looks like they are about to be backed into a corner by these Tory plans .... but i know a lot of number of people personally who are forever down the jobcentre , some every single day , genuinely seeking a job , only to consistently come back home disappointed.

It seems that most employers these days haven't got the patience , good manners , time or inclination , to even acknowledge someones job application , and that's demoralising in itself.

Yup agreed about the age discrimination, it’s rife everywhere and it’s too easy for employers to get around it. All it takes is careful wording on Person Specification and relaxed interview stages allow for discrimination.

As regards to employers these days not having the patience etc, I’d say this is down to the mercenary recruitment agencies. As soon as you’ve been unsuccessful at interview these sods don’t want to know, they hardly provide constructive feedback and usually give up as they’ve lost out on their big fat commission.

Gideon and Dave should concentrate on creating an economy that will create real jobs that pay correctly instead of yet again, picking on people who are already down.

The conservatives are a fucking disgrace but i can imagine the wankathon that went on around the breakfast table this morning when the Daily Mail dropped through the letterboxes.

Slave labour in 2013 and here in great fucking Britain!

If there is work available then why don't Job Centre staff just these tell people where it is and stop their benefits if they don't apply?

I know why.

Because there isn't real, paid work available.

What'll happen is that dole claimants will be put into firms and told to work for £71 per week and other employees will lose hours and pay.

It already happens and is called workfare.

Several high street shops and even many charities use it to save on wage bills.

I'm shocked that the private companies who run the work programs aren't up in arms about this.
They are going to be losing millions each year.
Who are they going to get to go on their back to work help classes and there plenty of them dreamed up to help the unemployed back into work.
How many people know that these companies are running useless money making schemes all funded by you.

"Getting up feeling good classes" I kid you not.

The idea behind it is simple enough, get a group of work program unemployed to come in first thing in the morning and get them do a few stretches before doing a job search for the day.

For each one that attends they get a nice fee, I do believe it is around the same as your weekly dole money. Obviously they also get a fee for the hire of the room in the building that they are already using for the work program. You need someone to run the class so you get in an expert in stretching obviously at extra cost even though they already work for the same company.

The above is happening on a daily basis all funded by you the tax payer.

I've seen a spread sheet for payments to one of these companies called Ingeus who are running the above money making scheme and it is mind blowing how much they are raking in each week. I'll try and find it later and post a link to it. It's not something private it is there for all to see on the internet from the government public records.

I'm not even shocked that there a few ex MPs and government officials who were in the decision making to award these contracts and now sitting on the board and getting paid handsomely as an adviser to the companies who won them.

Again all being paid by you the tax payer, enjoy you tea

Spot on mate.

So they propose to spunk hundreds of millions of pounds getting workshy scrotums off their backsides at least for their fat dole cheque. Cool. Someone please remind me how much money was frittered away by Iain Duncan Smith on the "work programme" which has had an amazing less than three percent success rate! [Citation needed] I do believe it is in the billions. Billions of pounds of YOUR money flushed away.

I do believe you are correct the percentage helped back to work in the first year on the work program was around 3.8 percent, but give them credit, the figures have gone up slightly after so called teething problems. I think it is now somewhere between 4 and 5 percent.
The figures published to defend all the money wasted includes people who are on work trial or voluntary work this then pushes the figures way up.

But actual numbers back into full time work after being on the work program is around 5 people in every 100 who attend.

What is more shocking is that these figures have been shown to be are lower than if they didn't go on the work program at all.

If a job needs doing then pay someone to do it, people shouldn't be 'forced' to do anything in 2013.

Just a few questions though:
Would lunch be provided?
How would they get there? Would they all stand at a bus stop or would the 'dole wagon' come around collecting them?

Just another attack on the unemployed

Disgusting isn't it.

The unemployed are getting picked on.

-- Mon Sep 30, 2013 2:47 pm --

Trust me I'm no tory but I don't understand what the fuss is about. Have people actually read in to the policy?

Compulsory community work doesn't come in to play until after 2 years of being on the work programme. Then according to the BBC...

These people are expected to either join a training scheme, take part in a Mandatory Work Activity placement or undergo intensive work preparation.

2 years is a long time to be unemployed.

What if your on Job Seeker's due to disability? there is alot of disabilities which make them not able to handle full time employment but they don't qualify for ESA

There needs to be some discrepancy

I was on a 2 year work programme and half way through it last Decemeber i was seriously ill and in hospital for 4 months, i'm still on employment support and have to have an operation next week, i'm due to finish this work programme thing this October but not heard a peep from them and been the jobcentre once since i came out of hospital in april and explained whats happened and what next and i haven't heard a peep since.

I'd had interviews whilst on this course but nothing came from it, applied for a load of jobs and heard nowt so it wasn't as if i was just scrounging about.

Those who apply for jobs and do get of their backsides and look are not gonna like this one bit, and that includes me, depending on what happens when i can get back into the world i think i'd rather opt for the courses cheers.

There's a reason it's called a JSA

Theresa May says the Government will soon publish a modern slavery bill. She must have missed the 'work for benefits' announcement earlier.
