World Cup 2018 | 26th June Matches | Next: Argentina vs Nigeria, Iceland vs Croatia, KO 19:00 (BST)

If you are making up the rules then fine, but not according to the ones written in the rule book.
Mate the rules have always been away from the body/unnatural and that's why the qualified referees at the WC with video replays available are giving penalties. Stop throwing stones at clouds.

Shame Argentina got through. Then again either they or France go out in the next round so not too bad.

Sportsmen move their arms away from their body to gain height, they also move their arms away from their body when they run. If they didn’t, they would be jumping about 2 foot shorter and running about half the speed they run. That would ruin the game just as much as cheap penalties do which is why the rules of the game specify that it has to be deliberate.

A forward beats the keeper and his shot hits the hand/arm of a defender standing on the line. It's not deliberate but it does stop the ball going in the net. You wouldn't give a penalty?

If you've ever jumped, you'd know why last night's arm positions weren't "unnatural"

Well seeing as you are arguing both are pens, but only one was given, why would I be singled out as 'throwing stones at clouds' ?

Andfl no they haven't always followed that rule, it's a relatively recent addittion to the rules, but the defenition of 'unnatural' is being used either for the sake of argument or to excuse inconsistent/bad/bent refereeing. There was absolutely nothing whatsoever 'unnatural' about the arm position of either player in either similar penatly incident. Your arms do all kinds of shit, naturally, when you play football.

The correct defenition is, of course, when a player deliberately sticks his arm out to block a cross or shot, or, as correctly shown when Umtiti recently handled the ball above his head deliberately, rather than it happening due to natural balance or momentum . It is the ref/v.a.r. job to not be robotic in it's interpreteation & rather, use the law in the spirit it is intended, which is purely to stop intentional foul play, not give pens for accidents, because almost every incident involves an arm in an, 'unnatural' position, in a huge variety of circumstances, and always has done. It's not a new movement.

That's where v.a.r. might have actually been some fucking use, instead of manufacturing incidents which aren't there.
