It's highly ridiculous the argument that's gone on in here, debating a definite handball by Perisic.
His reaction, after a heightened state of defence, was to move his hand TOWARDS the ball instinctively as otherwise it would have passed him and threatened the goal behind him. The fact that Matuidi misses the ball is what causes that instinctive defensive action!
Was it an accident? That would be a whole different argument based on 'nature vs nurture'!
The fact is, it happened and prevented a possibility of goal bound action.

if VAR and the ref give hand ball for that then france first goal should have been offside when pogba was offside when interfering with play

That said, Croatia were excellent and it was a great WC
*the ITV commentator said it was around 4min 30sec from incident to pen being taken. Total added on time at the end of the first half was only 3 mins. Can anyone explain?

It's just him coming down from a big jump, and trying to get his arms inside his body, he's not DELIBERATELY handled the ball, as per the rules.

His left one comes down quicker towards to the ball than his right one in 'natural' descent. So, explain how 'natural' that is?!

I think it has been a big success over all,it's never going to stifle debate but with the laws of the game it has got it right more often than not,the officials are the weak link not VAR itself
The problem is VAR depends on the whistling wankers interpreting it. Do you think Riley's minions will review many of our penalty claims or concentrate on penalty shouts against us?

He's jumping, twisting, turning and concentrating on the ball and other players around him, all of which will affect his balance, and his limbs adjust (shock horror, in different ways and at different speeds) to accommodate this. There's also the fact Matuidi got a touch on it at the last moment which changed the trajectory and speed of the ball.
Is that enough analysis on this 'clear and obvious' error?

I agree with you. The 'problem' with VAR is that correct calls are being given in situations in which players are used to getting away with it, and fans have got used to nothing being given, so it's a bit of a shock to the system for everyone.

Here's gonna be my last point.
You will see what you're going to see and I, likewise. The ref made a VERY courageous call based on not seeing the initial incident clearly from his position.
It was HIS decision. He could have easily gone with an easier option of sticking with his original incorrect observation/ guess.
He applied the rules to what he knows them to be.
His "clear and obvious error" was his guess in the first place.
He simply overruled himself.
