World Cup VAR

I do believe refs will stop making difficult calls and hope VAR covers their backs. Not good in my opinion.

Why, if it means decisions get reviewed and more decisions are correct, that's a positive outcome no??

miles better than the existing flawed solution...

Apparently FIFA will be 'investigating' VAR after the Harry Kane incidents last night...

Haha, you joke but it seems to be that way, yeah. I just caught them talking about it on the BBC. Said something about having an official watching over the VAR team. Bizarre.

not really bizarre, it's in its infancy and needs to be managed. It's a learning curve for everyone, there were always going to be teething issues with it. This is just a natural course of action in the pursuit of better application. Similar concept to the Referees assessor.... Makes sense

Its much better than ignoring it completely and brushing it under the carpet surely.

Those in favour if VAR quick to point out when one fairly obvious one ( Sweden ) is correct but nowhere to be seen when it comes to the Swiss goal or the Jesus pen last night or the rugby tackle in Kane. Where the f was VAR then ? Too much being left to clowns with machines who don' know the game.

I’ve wanted to give it every chance and defended it to the hilt but when Kane’s incident gets no referral then it’s obvious that it’s absolutely pointless.

Just as corrupt as ever, they’ll see what they want to see, tonight proved that.

Since I'm just jumping back into the thread after work, let me just tell you guys, the challenge system is the way to go!!

As I've said, previously, this version of VAR is flawed.

If questionable decisions aren't then referred back to the ref it could be a disaster.

There was only two reasons why VAR didn't work last night. Either ...

A) Somebody wanted Tunisia to win
or
B) Somebody wanted England to lose

I'm going for B on the basis that our displeasure after losing out to Russia for this tournament hasn't been forgotten.

According to a few referees last night and this morning, apparently offences away from the ball - like the Kane Wrestlemania slams - are difficult to spot using VAR in the required 12-15 second time frame.

I would suggest that is why coach challenges are essential in the proper opperation of VAR.

LOL!!

If that's true, that has to be the WORST excuse you can think of about VAR! How is it replays can pick up certain fouls/ contacts, but VAR can't??

Utter nonsense and YES agreed as to the reason coach challenges could be important!

You know what? ANYTHING is possible!!

I mean, if that was 'challenged' and the ref reviewed it, how could he not give either pen??

'Nah, he went down like a lightweight!'

'What's wrong with a little cuddle in the box?'

Fook me, the I'd LOVE to hear the reasons why!!

After the Salisbury poisoning fallout, if there is any corruption in match results, it would be amazing if we were to win the cup in Russia, even if the team were actually good enough.

England will be treated the same way City are in the premier league , they will give them absolutely nothing unless they’re forced to

if questionable decisions aren't referred to the ref while not great, it wouldn't make the decision any worse than originally given. So hardly a disaster. I presume that's why FIFA are reviewing the Kane incidents, to help improve things in the future.

So ref would have normally gave a free kick, quickly checked VAR and gave right decision for a penalty. Another goal a team would have been robbed if people would rather have kept it the old way.

Well VAR missed a clear second penalty.

It’s obviously fucking useless at penalising wrestling moves.

Completely justifying everything that I have said all along ! VAR can only be used for offside and where incidents take place e.g. that one and I am totally in favour for those two occurrences only. Although some would say that was oytside the box ! Everything else is subjective and a complete no no.
