Worried about the wages????

city street is the first step mate....i take it this will be open all year round, not just match days and will look to atrract people onto the complex. I'm hoping to eventually see a couple of hotels too.

But it's not even gonna come close. We're gonna have a 25 man squad, half of which are on over £100k a week with a good chunk on closer to £150k a week. It's ridiculous

i agree mate, city street wont make a dent in the wage bill, but as the area around the street is further developed with higher end buildings then bigger dents can be made

Don't give a shit how much they earn. I did have grave issues about it a while ago, but it's an argument that isn't worthy of a thread any more. We can't affect it, and as the Yanks say.....the boat has already sailed on that one.

The Rags did indeed start it a long, long time ago, and we are just doing what they done - paying players a lot more than anyone else to ensure they sign for us. If we win some silverware next season, then I won't be too bothered.

Yes, but until Glazer bought them, their spending was covered by the profits they generated.
They were a self sufficient club. It's a huge difference between them then and us (and them) now.

The best business model in the Prem league is the way Tottenham are run IMO.

If Toure is on £200,000 a week then someone needs sacking.

I'm guessing Marwood.

I am guessing that we had no option to pay this - remember that there are significant differences in income tax between SPain and UK where the tax cut is much higher.

Had we offered the same wage to Toure as he was on at Barca he would have been taking an effective wage cut - agree though its still alot of money

That's all it's ever gonna be though - minor dents on a goliath wage bill. And developing higher end buildings is going to take years and amssive amounts of investment, only to be effectively wasted because we can't seem to negotiate decent wages

the owners are gambling on CL football its that simple - the target has to be in the order of 150 milion pounds - if and when CL is achieved the high price we have to pay for players alomg with wages will reduce

Sad fact is SC prices will have go up - if you compare City to Spurs who are similar sized clubs then Spurs generate a significant more %age more revenue than ourselves.

Dont be fooled by the rag press. Remember last season when we failed to break into the champ leauge they were bragging we would never be able to attract quality players as they would want champ leauge football. Having been proved wrong yet again about city they are now inventing excessive inflated wages to suggest we are offering each new player a kings ransom (sic). Only the deluded and arragant rags and dippers will want to believe this!

Why does everyone believe everything printed in the News of the World and such papers ???

Since when did Premier League clubs start officialy releasing personal details of the players wages. It's a rumour, nothing more.....

Yes at the moment, and the last ...many years they have, but just wait until this years figures are released for us, last years didn't include the Umbro, Etihad, Ferrostaal, and telesalat (?) deals, so we will at least start to look something more like,

Spurs have been incredibly lucky if you ask me, as even though a few of their rivals have had success (Chelsea and Arsenal), neither of those teams have won anywhere near what the rags and Liverpool have won (over the last 40 years), so there, In my opinion has never been a polarity to ONE club in London, whereas we have had both the self proclaimed" CLUB OF THE WORLD " THE WORLDS RICHEST CLUB, THE WORLDS GREATEST CLUB" Trade Mark, on our doorstep and Englands most successful club 45 mins away, these 2 clubs have hoovered up every corporate deal there is to be had for the last 40 years between them.
Chelsea and Arsenals success has never been relentless like Liverpool and the rags.
Spurs sponsorship deal with Puma and Mansion was worth something like £70 million whilst we got something like 3M m a year with T C & Reebok.

I am sure our figures next year will be a bit more indicative of where we are heading.

The whole "self sufficiency" thing has been a concern for me for a long time, especially with the new FIFA financial fair play regulations due soon. The example of Chelsea is a good one, they have been aiming for break even for a good number of years, and although the deficit gap is narrowing they're still running at a loss, even with all the extra revenue they've been generating.

We've spent a huge ammount of money on players, wages too, and the argument is that we've needed to invest in the squad because we needed the players. Even in the pre Thaksin days we were struggling financially, with very little net spend on players and a wage ceiling capped at ~£30k a week. But the fact is we've paid way over the odds for players in the past 2-3 seasons. I would hope that the club are doing their homework on the players and their background, and not just signing the mercenaries. It is true that the club is being run in a more professional manner, with new sponsorship deals and the potential for Champions league money, but we still aren't anywhere near close to generating enough money to cover the huge losses. I can't see how it's going to happen to be honest, even with the extra revenue from the redevelopments around the stadium is taken into account.
