Worst away days

Brighton away late December 1979 snow and icy weather going down,got hammered 4-1 ,Stuart Lee scored at their old stadium.

We had some crackers at The Goldstone Ground didn't we.
We won there the following season when Tueart got a couple and I seem to remember Steve Daley getting sent off.
However , the ones that really stand out (apart from the one you mention) were another 4:1 defeat and that absolutely shite 4:0 FA Cup defeat that persuaded John Bond he'd had enough..
Add to the mix one of the worst grounds ever, it always seemed to piss down in that open away corner and the police made people take their laces out of their boots it was a pretty shit experience going there for sure . Brighton also seemed to have quite a high number of dickheads supporting them, which didn't help matters!

It was 4-1. We were 4-0 down at half time but a late Bobby McDonald goal meant we edged the second half 1-0!
It was on Easter Monday. The dippers beat us 5-0 at Maine Road on the Saturday so by half time at Molineux, we’d conceded nine goals in 135 minutes of football over slightly less than 48 hours.

I was at that Wolves game, I remember the piss taking/self mocking wild celebrations from the away end when Mcdonald scored! From what I remember Wolves had a very odd looking ground at that point, didn't they have one side completely empty and one stand quite a long way from the pitch ?
(or am I just imagining that?) I also remember my parents being pissed off with me because they reckoned I should have been at home revising for my O levels rather than traveling miles watching my team get a good twatting !! Not too sure which would have been the more painful way to spend the day looking back!!)

I was stood on the open terrace near those "posh seats".
After the goal, all I remember seeing was police throwing dozens of fans out of those seats as it kicked off.
Kept in afterwards followed by a police "escort" back to the train station.

Forest can be a dodgy trip. Once got a sneaky bone jarring shoulder charge as we walked back to the car when I wasn't expecting it after we'd beaten them under Keegan. We didn't gang about. Thing is I wasn't wearing colours and I wasn't talking so I could have been Forest for all he knew.. Doubt it was a "Blue on Blue" either.

You're 100% correct about how Molineux looked at that time. There was major redevelopment going on there and the new stand that had recently opened was a huge distance from the pitch. That stand cost way more than its original budget and plunged Wolves into a complete financial abyss that delayed the completion of the project for years.
It wasn't until after the Taylor Report in the early 90s that all the work was finally completed.

This thread seems to have morphed into mainly just a list of shit away performances over the years.

I’ve had some of the most memorable away days at games where the result was shit.

That 4-0 Brighton cup defeat that’s been mentioned for example was a quality day. From DD taking over DJing duties in the pub next to Hove station before the games. To a few gobby Brighton fans in the opposite side paddock to the away end, slowly realising they were surrounded by about 50 City fans. To the long, eventful journey back to Piccadilly in the evening.

Although I’m not saying some people can’t have a shit day and others a good day at the same time obviously.

I've been there a few times and never had any mither.
I've heard a few stories from that cup game in the 70's which was before my time.l and to be fairly it kicked off most places back then.
Worst for mither I experienced was that Cardiff cup game in 94.

I’ve had some of the most memorable away days at games where the result was shit.

Good point about really shit performances not necessarily equating to shit days out (although they did often go hand in hand) There were several times in the 80s/90s when the 90 minutes from kick off was appalling, but I enjoyed the day due to a good piss up/sing song/ and the general commaraderie (not sure about spelling there!) amongst the City fans. The words to 'we never win at home and we never win away' were very true in those days!!

Palace away 1996 , thought we were getting Bassett and instead got battered 3 1, coach broke down.

Nowadays I don't feel defeats as badly as I used to as I've seen us won everything, only really hurts if it costs us a title or a Derby defeat.
