Worst away days

Yeah I remember something like that now you mention it
I was at both. 0 10 in a week. Scousers used to love us in them days. I believe Ball said in the 6 0 that he just sat back and enjoyed the football, daft ****. He also genuinely thought the City fans were being brilliant to him and clearly didnt understand the word irony

Luckily I was in their Main Stand for that game. It was pretty horrific to watch but there was one funny bit. The police formed a line across the pitch to stop the home fans at the Leazes end from coming on and joining the fray. However one idiot decided to run down the pitch towards the Gallowgate end, while encouraging his fellow fans to join him, Nicky Weaver 1999 style. Sadly for him, none of them did and he reached the line of coppers and launched himself at it. Needless to say, he got a good battering from the constabulary.
From what I remember there was an overspill from what I thought was the Gallowgate end so the coppers let some young kids into our end, swiftly followed by a load of Geordie blokes and we got a right pasting. After the match we got what I remember as my first police escort, and frankly it was welcome

Their end was just getting so ridiculously full that they were spilling on to the pitch side and plod seeing the City end was half full at best, thought it would be a good idea to let them in there.

That of course was an invitation for every nutter in that end to make their way onto the pitch.

A lot of City ended up jumping over a big fuck off wall at the back of the stand and out of the ground before the game had even started.

Those that survived had an even more eventful day out in the next round at Leeds.

Don’t go to many away games.

But Port Vale away in 1998 sticks in the memory. Dreadful pitch, dreadful City performance leading to 2-1 loss.

Half time saw a game involving amputees which added to the gallows humour in the away end.

1988
Everton away quarter final.
got in late thanks to their police and escort from Edge Hill.
lost 2-0 and murder outside only tempered by the horrendous rain storm.
Train home being peppered with bricks and pellets etc
Home very late and work in the morning.
As usual,we thought that year was gonna be our year.
Think that was the worst I ever saw for violence at a city away game, total mayhem from the min we arrived, we had big numbers there thankfully & gave as good as we got

I remember our tickets were at the top level along the side of their main stand where the players run out,we missed most of the first half because of merseyside police holding us in around edge hill, after the game it was a free for all, bedlem everywhere, lad on our bus back to the train station had been cut up badly in his face, poor sod.

Lincoln in 1998. Midweek. Dreadful performance Had to drive back to the South Coast afterwards. Didn’t get back home until well after midnight.
Was that the one where we got beat 2-1 and they celebrated like they had won the cup. I was working in Huddersfield and trailed over and stayed the night - only time I have ever had 2 pies at a game.

Went to Port Vale away in the late 80's / early 90's for a F.A cup game. The "toilet" was ankle deep in piss. Not nice.
