Would Kinkladze get into this side?

Closest player to Kinkladze these days is Messi and wouldn’t we all love to see him playing for City.

Messi invented the ‘false’ No 9 role. He doesn’t track back and walks around much of the time.

Give him the ball though and he is electric. Can take any player on 1 for 1 and shoot from anywhere – as did Kinkladze.

I’d have loved to have seen Kinkladze in this role, which didn’t exist in the 90’s and feel he’d fit perfectly into such a position at City now.

You don't honestly believe what you have posted?

I don't think he'd get near the team.

Similar style of play to Messi, maybe, but that's where the comparison ends.

Above average Premier League midfielder playing in a shit team, failed to make an impression anywhere else he went.

I do love him tho.

I would say no . . A Bernarbia at his peak would get in this team .
No; he wouldn't either. He played in an arguably better side so it isn't a case of him standing out because the rest were rubbish (unlike Gio), but at his peak he still wasn't as good as any of our current first choice quartet.

Sadly, I never saw him at his peak, just his time with us. Wasn't he the French leagues player of the year at one point ? If so, he must have been very special at the height of his powers.

Comparing like for like is difficult I personally loved kinky a virtually unplayable close control genius with supreme natural balance and poise. When he arrived in English football there wasn't a defender in the country who could cope with him, over time however he became less and less effective as good defenders learned to read him (he was a bit of a one trick pony)and used to dribble in repetitive patterns taking the same options. He was also a very greedy player taking ridiculous choices when team mates offered better options but for all his failings (and he was admittedly by no means the finished article) when he was "ON IT" he was amazing to witness and rightly revered as one of Citys greatest players.

I'm interested to know what people think. I've heard people say Kinky would walk into this team. I've heard people say he's the best player City have ever had.
I disagree. For me, while he had a great individual talent and ability, would I really swap Silva for him? Not in a million years. His career was defined at City and nosedived when he left. Good player yes. Good enough for this side? No.
What are your thoughts?

he was the one player I never got to see play live who I've regretted not seeing (because I was overseas and 'embroiled' in my surroundings at that time with my options for getting back to the UK rather limited back then)

no doubt he'd get games, and I'd love to see how he'd play in this side - a team of infinitely better quality than those he used to line up in.

a fascinating question and one that'll get a lot of different answers from those who were around in his day.. he was a player for sure, and quite naturally a big fan favourite.
