Each to their own, mate.

Back to the cops with guns issue, all cops over here carry guns and you know not to fuck with them, as they will fuck you up. Hence, we have very few times when cops do have to shoot.

you're right about the Victorian police force, shoot first and ask questions later policy,15 year old skateboarders armed with a bread knife for example.
Meanwhile here in New South Wales,21 year Brazilian student tazered to death for pinching a packet of biscuits, bloke harming himself with a knife shot, and NSW police tried to cover it up by claiming she meant to get her tazer.
Too many small stature police officers reaching for weapons first, the amount of women and south east aisan people in police uniform is not anywhere near the percentage of the population.

Brazilian was tazered for resisting arrest, not for pinching biscuits.

The 15 year old lad that was shot, had two knives and had threatened staff at a near by store. The police pepper sprayed him twice and fired a warning shot before he tried to attack a police officer cornered in a stairwell. I know he was only 15, but what else were they to do, the kid was crazy and dangerous.

Those south east asian people will be Australians, mate. Unless we have started to bring them over on temporary work visa's.

Sounds like a right fucking mess.

Why's that?

A labour aristocracy/soft Socialist union which is what I'd describe the U.K/E.U. as, which has passed Human Rights legislation, has no desire to revolt.

If the Tories wanted the destruction of the welfare state, maybe there would be a large scale reaction but I'm not sure whether that'll happen.

What needs to happen now is to stop people passing on money to their children/friends. And to have a more detailed tax system which takes into account the merits of what you actually do to replace in part a measure of how much you earn. How that is achieved without making everyone worse off is the problem Western European countries are faced with, but I think the current electoral system will find the answer eventually.

Yep, generosity is exactly what we need to put a stop to.

Let's end Christmas and Birthdays as well.

Fuck it, let's just end the human race.

I don't know as I don't live there, but my guess would be that it's because the police are allowed to carry guns.

My wife works at a criminal law firm (defending), believe me, things here would be much, much worse if they did not.

Sort your quotes out, you fuckwits ;)

In my defence it wasn't me, and I tried to sort it out but it was beyond help. A bit like Australia's gun laws.

Our gun laws are fairly strict now, following a spate of massacres in the 80s and 90s.

We had the Hoddle Street and Queen Street massacres in 87, 16 shot dead, and Port Arthur in 96, 35 shot dead.

To be fair our countries are completely different, I understand why guns are allowed more freely in Australia because of the vast swathes of relatively untouched land. If a man is out in the bush on his own he needs a gun for protection, the same as the pioneers did in the US. The UK just doesn't fit that model. The only reason the police would need to carry guns would be if the licensing laws for the public were relaxed, and that just isn't going to happen.
