Would you prefer to be s**t again?

This lad makes a few very good points for me. With the way the club's going regarding away tickets, pricing out local fans etc would you be happy if tomorrow Sheikh Mansour said he's selling us and we went back to the club we used to be? Genuinely not sure on my answer, really not liking the way the club is going.

No. No and no.

Hold on a minute, when you say anyone who puts oh dear - obviously never witnessed the shambolic times !!! well I put oh dear on page 2 and can assure you as a 39 year old I have witnessed the shambolic times

Well I hated us being shit, and being labelled a yo-yo club. The constant berating by the red scum - Well you can shove being shit, I am embracing our golden era knowing that all i wanted before i died was not England winning a trophy, but my loved club being competitive and winning titles

As we all should imo
Totally agree. Can't believe some on here. Do they really want us to go back to watching the vermin win trophies, vermin flags on windows and cars, vermin fans laughing at us as we get relegated and a match against a Sheffield club becomes a big game ? We used to have fans calling the Sweeney and Stannage shows on Piccadilly Radio joking that all we need is a rich Sheikh. And now we have one !! Back to the bad old days..... No thanks !!!!!

The phrase 'Rose coloured specs' springs to mind. Despite the inflatable bananas, those days were not enjoyable. For how many years did the 'Swales out' chants last ? Several years. Some fans even protested against our own legend, Franny. Franny was our Sergio of his day with King Colin our Silva. Masses of idiot fans protested against him while all the time he was sorting out the economic catastrophe he inherited from Swales. The Etihad relocation was a Franny initiative - no Franny, no big stadium for us and possibly no Sheikh Mansour. We should be eternally grateful for what Franny did for us on the pitch and off it.
I was thinking more about the post-Swales days and I agree that Franny inherited a mess that was beyond him to sort out but he did put some of the foundations of what came next in place. But thinking back to the 1970's when I started going home & away regularly, it was accepted that you could finish runners-up one season and 13th or 14th the next. That would be an utter and complete failure these days.

The number of people who think it would be better is much greater than those who would actually enjoy it. It would be a far greater comedown than we endured in the 80's and 90's. Supporting a significantly declining club is a deeply unpleasant and bewildering experience, especially in the era we now live in.

The top four was much more fluid in those days. Don't you agree that Franny actually sorted out many of our economic problems, which included a debt that was massive at the time ? He refused to put the club in further debt. The guy sweated blood for us - a reluctant owner who stepped in to clear up someone else's mess. And the 'no brain cells' brigade protested against him. Seems a lot of 'em are still here and do not understand the new dynamic of the club. It's 'fans' like that who are likely to rub up SM the wrong way.

I can't believe this is a serious thread. Nobody who witnessed those long hard seasons, without any hope of a trophy, or even a decent team, would want to go back to that.

Why would we want to go back to watching shit? ST prices used to go up every year then as well, and yes we still moaned about it but we just got on with it.

If next year pans out as expect it to then I would love to revisit this thread

I do agree. I've said before that I feel that Franny has been judged harshly by some. Swales had completely gutted the club and his ego couldn't accept he was well out of his depth. But I also suspect Franny completely underestimated the scale of the task and, like some modern US owners, thought he could chuck in a few quid and reap the rewards by floating the club. But there was too much to do and he didn't have enough money to do it.

But the people owning and running the club, even Sheikh Mansour & Khaldoon, should never be above warranted criticism.
