WSL Chelsea (H) 08/10/23:

They absolutely should. I was pleased Taylor avoided it though, as it wouldn't have helped.
It doesn't matter to the people organising, administering and arbitrating the game. They can't get rid of fixtures quick enough and on to the next set with the hope that even the genuine grievances, shoddy and incorrect refereeing have all died away, and the focus is on the next game.

Even the BBC are being quite direct in our defence it was that bad.

Nope, for once the BBC have an honest handle on a game. The apology for a ref had been overly officious with the largest portion of bumptiousness to arrive at one of our games. I think if she ever turns up again at the Joie this season she will get a torrid reception for the entire 90mins. I wonder if H. Webb thought it was strong refereeing or is he still shaking his head.

City made four fouls in the entire match, but got seven yellow cards (2 second yellows).

I wonder if the FA will charge us for failing to control our players?

If they do we should put out a counter-charge to the FA of failing to control their referee.

I think the fourth official is being charged with failing to control the ref! I've just watched the highlights on the OS. I don't know who was commentating, it might have come from the BBC coverage, but the commentator and summariser are of the same opinion as the majority inside the stadium - a referee who was completely out of control!

I think the way she strutted across the field or shall I say 'aggressively walked' over to Alex G was Pythonesque! And after she delivered the card she looked as though she'd been attacked by the inmates of a wasps' nest and had to chew on a few before she could resume the game. The worst management of a game ever! Calling Carlsberg to see if they can beat it!

City 4 fouls
11 yellows
2 reds

Chelsea 10 fouls...
Why do people post these stats?

Do you want xYC to be a thing?

Each foul Is different. Some warrant cards; others don’t.

Given most of our cards were for dissent, the number of fouls to cards is utterly irrelevant, yet it’ll be peddled out after every game.

What is relevant is whether every WSL ref is now gonna give a yellow for booting the ball away, or will there be some guidance as to how far you have to boot it. Our full back made a decent fist of booting it some distance so it might be that just a couple of yards, five, ten or twenty yards won't cop for a card.

The trouble with fouls is that there is no standard measure - the ref just decides on the spot, often in the heat of the moment, and I've seen enough fouls in my time to suggest that some players get away with a yellow card. Funnily enough, they always seem to belong to the team we are currently playing.

The foul on Hemp down by our corner which didn't result in a yellow card, when you consider what the apology for a ref was doling out generally was way beyond comical. You can near cripple some one and pick up a yellow, boot the ball away and disagree with a manifestly incorrect decision and yer off. Summat up with getting a red for 'technical fouls' whilst violent play can just result in a yellow and carrying on till the final whistle.

This is the crux of the issue and makes the stats of yellow cards per foul as useless as our attack was at the Emirates yesterday.

A team could have 5 sent off and concede the game without committing a foul, should 5 players punch the opposition when the ball wasn’t in play, whereas a team could commit 50 fouls and not tot up enough cards for a sending off if they were small fouls that didn’t meet the criteria to warrant a booking.

Football is emotive in its core and that means every action is viewed differently by every single player, referee and spectator.

Your last line sums up the partisan element of football that makes balanced debate hard.
