Wydad AC (N) | CWC | Post Match Thread

The two incidents you’re describing are entirely different. Rico’s tackle was actually perfect. It was just unlucky that the momentum and collision with the opposition player led to his boot flicking up.

Really soft red card, but that’s football now.

Look up the rules we don’t like it but you look up the rules accidental tackles that look dangerous and reckless is a red or can be a red! I don’t like it you don’t like majority of fans don’t like it and believe it isn’t a red but the referee giving a red isn’t wrong decision.

The games gone we know that..

so pep never ever gets it wrong, with the best will in the world nobody is infallible and the most qualified people in the world are still capable of having blind sports, its truly cult behaviour to say just because pep picks him then he must be up to the required standard.
That's fair enough. As I always say everyone's entitled to their opinion no matter how bizarre and misguided.

You're leaning against an open door about Doku with me. It's like watching the naked emperor on here. So many taken in. Of course he's a good player and occasionally, like with Sterling, something comes off but on the whole he probably weakens us - but that's difficult to get over when he's either scored or caused something to happen.
As a 20 minute impact player I've no issue - but sure he would.
If the new boys and the returning Rodri can sure up midfield and we get a RB (the LB being now addressed), maybe we can afford the luxury.
Of course we'll win 90 odd % of games, but in the very tight, elite level ones, he and Sav - hmmm?
I disagree strongly. Doku is a one-off, a game-changing player there are only a handful of. If he can introduce a bit more consistency to his game and a better final ball he will be devastating. Just see the graph below which shows what an outlier in the modern game he is.

50/50 means no player has clear claim of the possession beforehand and arriving at the ball at similar moment. There will always be early arriver and late arriver. And caution should be exercised by both parties. One cannot pursue first touching the ball recklessly at the risk of the safety of the other player. If the late player fouled the early player it is a foul but it is still called 50/50 ball and no card. If the late arriver show his stud toward the early player, it will be a card. I don’t think there is a term 100/0. If one has secured the ball possession and the other player give excessive contact maybe can be called 100/0.
So as well as inventing rules regarding late tackles you're now inventing definitions of what a 50/50 tackle is.

Heard on commentary, that the stadium was the home of the Philladelphia Eagles, and had staged the most recent Wrestlemania.

I am not joking with my next question, did anyone else, (watching City's 9 corners, ) come to the same genuine conclusion i did, that we should have had 8 penalties, (the only corner not requiring a penalty, was the one we scored from, and that should also have been a penalty, but for playing advantage?

Honestly, not blue tinted specs and all that, but at EVERY single corner, (and indeed a few more for free kicks) City players were blocked, pulled, thrown to the floor. The twat in charge spoke to the players a couple of times, but did absolutely nothing.

It wasn't even subtle, totally blatant, and EVERY time, and not one single penalty given. If he'd have given the first one, would have instantly stopped it!

In another universe - the player is late to the tackle and would/should have been booked.

I'm trying to see another angle to suggest why Ricko's foot pops up, but can't find one. It can be the hip or knee's reaction to hitting the floor. Obviously the calls for a life ban or being sent home are the usually orchestrated bollocks.

I would bench him for a few games anyway. He doesn't need all the shit that will come in the next couple of weeks if he plays.

Incidentally, he looks much more use as an attacking midfielder than a full back. Lucky we don't have loads of them ;-)

I thought given the conditions, given we were giving debut to two newbees, given we went very young at the back, it was a good enough performance. There were bright elements to it: Phil looked happier and sharper, Reindeer looked excellent I thought. The sending off was nonsense and despite a couple of loose passes Rodri looked like the boss. on the not so great side, Erling still lacking a bit of confidence, the smiles at his misses tell a tale. More of the same from Savinho, I thought Doku was ok and his cut backs better. I don't see any change in tactics though. Some were hoping for more pace and quicker transitions. Big plus was we looked organised at set pieces and even scored directly from a corner. Don't care what the stats said about corners last season we were a disorganised shambles. The new coach is already showing his worth.

I did ask for a link for the rule that says players can be late in the tackle but you didn't supply it.
I don’t think there is a link saying players can be late in 50/50 tackle challenge situations. Because there will always be a player that is slight late. If no hindering of the player who touched the ball it will be just a play on. And it is still a good 50/50 ball situation. If the late player hindered the movement of the early player, it is a foul in the 50/50 challenge. There can be obviously late challenges that cannot ba called 50/50 ball but that is called just straight foul not 50/50.

No point reading much into the performance of a team with that many new faces on a shite pitch. Big hopes for Reijnders though. If we get the Ballon D'Or winning Rodri back we are fucking laughing in midfield.

Find it a bit weird that people expect us to have nailed down these new tactics already - we've only been back in training a few days. It's gonna take until at least Christmas for it to be consistently on show.

Considering we went with three youngsters at the back and started with no DM, I'd say we controlled it fairly well. And I think there were flashes of new things, especially with how we reacted to turnovers at the back - when we won the ball back on the edge of our own area, I thought we were quite eager to shift it into midfield and get going. Quicker than usual.

And a lot of the passing in midfield felt like the lads knew to take two touches at most. The chemistry between the front lads needs to improve a bit but that's all. Glad to see Foden looking more like himself as well - I realise he went onto 99 goals for City yesterday, so he could notch his 100th at this tournament.

I don't really have any expectations for the CWC. I'd rather we treated it like a pre-season tour, which we seem to be doing thus far.

Lots of holding at every corner but most of it was before the kicks were taken therefore penalties could not be awarded. I think it was Ake being thrown to the ground when Doku scored; pity we couldn't be awarded a bonus penalty.

Unfortunately I don't have a graph to parry and riposte with, just go off what I watch in real life and experience.
Say your graph is conclusive, we can't afford too many "outliers" that offer little defensively and positionally but only what they excel at. Leaves us misshapen/stretched and vulnerable. As I've said, playing Doku, Haaland and Savinho together, means the work required by the others goes up exponentially.

I've only seen it a couple of times, but assumed his foot kind of slid up the Wydad player's leg.

I wouldn't have given a red card as it clearly wasn't intentional, but then I'm pretty sure that doesn't even matter anymore. Think we just have to accept that these days if you kick an opponent in the head you're going to be sent off, regardless of the context.

Exactly it is my opinion and if you say its bizarre and misguided i would be very interested to hear a counter argument that isnt he must be good because pep says so

We won the game in what were uncomfortable searing hot conditions; Reijnders played well, O'Reilly half decent and we didnt have to leave 2nd gear much.

Ludicrous red card but what do you expect from officials and the VAR room these days? I gave up any hope of competency after the FA Cup Final jokeshop.
