Wydad AC (N) | CWC | Post Match Thread

I don't really have any expectations for the CWC. I'd rather we treated it like a pre-season tour, which we seem to be doing thus far.

We treat it seriously. These pre-season vibes that some feel are nonsense.

Pep will use the first two games to rotate many players, but not because he doesn't care whether we can reach the final. He wants to involve all players available and it won't be easy from Juventus onwards. After the first 2 games Pep will choose the team that's the best available right now, a core of 16-17 players. Rico, O'Reilly, Reis, Khusa, etc. are not likely to play many minutes after the 2nd game, unless we have it realively easy after the group games, which is unlikely. Whether we play Real or Al Hilal, Pep will field a very strong XI.

50/50 means no player has clear claim of the possession beforehand and arriving at the ball at similar moment. There will always be early arriver and late arriver. And caution should be exercised by both parties. One cannot pursue first touching the ball recklessly at the risk of the safety of the other player. If the late player fouled the early player it is a foul but it is still called 50/50 ball and no card. If the late arriver show his stud toward the early player, it will be a card. I don’t think there is a term 100/0. If one has secured the ball possession and the other player give excessive contact maybe can be called 100/0.
In a 50/50 challenge you go in as hard as possible.

Exactly it is my opinion and if you say its bizarre and misguided i would be very interested to hear a counter argument that isnt he must be good because pep says so
Given he's one of the finest judges of a player in world football I would suggest that is the perfect counter argument.
Remember all those people slagging off Rodri when he first played for us - Pep knew.

I would like to know in what world was that tackle on Marmoush in the first half not a red card?
A few inches from denying him the right to father children ffs!!!
It’s how refs get affected by who and when. The “who” in this case was a pretty unknown player, maybe inexperienced, and is given some leeway, but if that was a City defender I would expect a clamour of calls for a red. The “when” is because it’s early in the game and the ref doesn’t want to disadvantage a team that could have been onto a thrashing (so soon after our early goal). I reckon that tackle happens second half and he’s off.

that was for one season , lewis has had 2 seasons now and even the finest judges of players get it wrong from time to time, phillips being the prime example, as god as pep is, he is not infallible nobody is.

Cos pep says is not a counter point, you could open up the palmer can of worms with that debate also, take pep out of it what is lewis exceptional at? is he quick, is he strong, is he very positionally aware, can he pick a great pass, good in the air, great defender, good in the tackle, what does he excel in?

Hot weather, second string defensive unit, 2 new midfield players, and questionable opposition. Not a huge amount to learn.

Positives - we won, Doku looks like he wants goals, Rodri played again, Raindeer looked good, Foden played well.

Negatives - Rodri's passing skills look at best rusty, Cherki needs time to get to know the players around him and might be trying a bit too hard to impress, Rico suspended next match (not a red in my book)

When's the last time we scored from a corner?
We get loads per game but never do anything with them, the ball seldom going to one of our players even.
It would be interesting to see the stats.

Yes kind of like all-in to touch it first. And the ref usually will be softer as it is obvious no time for full stop when you reallized you are late in the last moment. But players sill do the last-moment constraining to avoid injury.

Going half-arsed into a 50/50 (last moment constraining) is a sure fire way of getting injured.

Use a ;-) mate :-)
Why? Both are midfield specialists, subjected to Pep’s usual treatment of full backs. We have just bought one, I would have thought he might try him out and we have Khusanov who has shown he is a competent full back. So we have two midfielders there.

We are talking about Lewis last night ?
Last night wasn't 50/50 Lewis was first by a country mile.
The opponent last late and slide into Lewis.
The opponent should have been booked for a late tackle.
The opponent I think force Lewis leg up, plus I'm not even sure his leg connected with the player.

If you put "Guardiola Rico Lewis" in Google there are many articles where Pep describes Rico's abilities - you don't need me to paraphrase them.

If you disagree fine but it takes a certain kind of arrogance to disagree with someone of Pep's experience and trophy winning history.

If it was Stuart Pearce as manager we were talking about I might cut you a bit of slack.
