Yaya Toure - 2016/17 performances

I thought Toure was pretty shocking for Son's goal. Loafing about ball watching while Eriksen, Alli and Son were dragging the defenders out of position. He went from ball watching Dembele who had 3 other players on him, while Toure should have been marking Eriksen. Then he began to ball watch Eriksen while he should have been tracking Son.

I'm not a City supporter so I haven't seen much of Toure this season but if that is the norm, what does that say about the other City midfielders? I realise Fernandinho is suspended, Gundogan injured, but surely even an 80% fit Fernando or Delph wouldn't make such enormous errors? Toure looked like he just couldn't be arsed to mark anybody.

Is he really the best City have in the absence of Fernandinho and Gundogan?

Please do not mention ball watching or failing to track runners in this thread.

You can replace it with," given too much defensive responsibility" though.

This is absolutely tragic. That is one of the best games Yaya ever played in a City shirt.

I had real doubts that Yaya could redeem himself to such as an extent but credit to both the player and Guardiola for turning the situation around. Whether it is enough to win a new contract and he can still play a huge part for next season is still debatable.

Who do you support then?

Did you just watch that goal or did you watch the other 95 minutes where Spurs' dynamic young midfield including the Milton Keynes Pele were passed off the park.
Granted YaYa may have struggled to pick up Eriksson & Son in one instance. But Eriksson, Wanyama, Ali & Dembelle got no where near him for the rest of the game.

Absolutely spot on. We dropped points because of sloppiness on both boxes but dominated the middle of the pitch with the majestic yaya running the show.

Arsenal fan?

I don't understand that comment. When you have Kane up top, with Alli, Eriksen and Son behind him running around and dragging the centre backs out of position, surely the deepest midfielders are responsible? I called it ball watching because that is my perception of what he was doing. First he was looking at Dembele (he'd taken a look to see Eriksen behind him in space but didn't try to get near him). Then he was looking at Dembele when he was the man in the best position to track Son.
