Yaya Toure - 2016/17 performances

This is absolutely tragic. That is one of the best games Yaya ever played in a City shirt.

I didn't comment on his entire game. I'm sure he was tired, but the issue was that he didn't appear to try to pick up Eriksen first and Son second. It was a costly error. People slated Lloris for his mistakes, but I don't even think the first one was very bad, and he had a very good game otherwise, as he usually does as part of one of the two outstanding defensive sides in the league.

Did you just watch that goal or did you watch the other 95 minutes where Spurs' dynamic young midfield including the Milton Keynes Pele were passed off the park.
Granted YaYa may have struggled to pick up Eriksson & Son in one instance. But Eriksson, Wanyama, Ali & Dembelle got no where near him for the rest of the game.

I only watched the highlights. I didn't comment on his overall performance. The issue for me isn't that he didn't get near Eriksen or Son, it is that he didn't try to get near them. There is no point winning a midfield battle if you don't do enough in each box to win it I'm afraid.

Absolutely spot on. We dropped points because of sloppiness on both boxes but dominated the middle of the pitch with the majestic yaya running the show.

Yeah but my point was that I felt Toure was the most sloppy player during the phase of play that lead to the Son goal. Often a lot of this would be dumped onto the centre backs. I can't see much point in running the show unless you capitalise on it through good play in both boxes.

He didn't just win the midfield battle, he took the piss. I suggest if your going to comment on a performance you watch the whole game!

Like I said, I didn't comment on the performance. I don't agree that it is a requirement to watch every minute of every game to have an opinion. If that logic were extended, it would be necessary to watch every match of football he's ever played to see his development, injury history etc. The question is, in that moment, was Toure at fault for that goal? If so, how bad was the error?

Hence why we only drew.
