Yaya Toure - 2017/18 performances

I'll remember him being an integral part of a title winning team, but I'll never hold him in the same category as, say, Pablo Zabaleta.... He caused too much trouble and bad press for us in recent years, and I don't care if it was his agent or not, Yaya idly sat by and allowed it to continue.

Like I said when remembering Yaya I'll remember him being a part of the team, in the same aspect I think of Tevez.... but legend? Not a chance.

It's just his bad luck that the team has gelled without him, so he has no match fitness.

He wouldn't be so far off it, if he had been playing more. If the situation demanded he played regularly, he'd improve, a lot.

And the point that the team is weaker with him in it, yes it is. And Gundogan is just as far away from replacing Dinho, as Yaya is. In fact Yaya is more suited to it, as at least he can challenge for a header.

I can count on 1 hand how many times Yaya has won an aerial duel in his entire city career.

At 6'4" and never having the most athletic physique even at his best, it will be very easy for someone like Yaya to lose touch with the speed of the game at this level in a league like the Prem.

It was always a few months into the season before he got match fit in his prime (some players only require pre-season, some a couple of proper games into a new season). We had threads on here talking about it every year, i remember one discussion one year was when we beat West Ham away and he was immense and we said "he finally looks match fit" and it was Novmeber.

No need for some on here to have a pop at yaya, yes he is coming to the end of his time at City but still deserves some respect, o and by the way Yaya is a legend at our club, if only for what he did to the rags at wembley.

Totally agree. Yaya coming to the club was a big coup and played an incredible part in our journey of putting us back at the top of English football. Scored so many important goals in his career for us. Still think he will have a part to play this season.

The problem isnt just match fitness though, it’s more than that. The reason I posted the thread mid-game was that he’d literally been on the pitch about 5/10 mins and he tried to break into some form of sprint and it was painful to watch, it never even got past a jog, his legs just won’t do it anymore.

He has provided us with many moments of magic and we wouldn’t be where we are today without him, however I suppose the main gist of this thread was can we afford to keep him in the squad for the second half of the season OR if the opportunity arises do we ship him off to New York and get a replacement in the Jan window?

I’d love him to get whatever medals we pick up this season but I’d hate us to take a risk, as believe me, if Dinho was out for an extended period we’d be fucked if Yaya was having to be relied upon in big games against agile top midfielders.

He wouldn't be. The Manager is not stupid. In game like this when we are 3-0 up he is perfect as his passing is still good.

He isn't starting for the reasons you stated.

He will start in cup matches though and rightly so as they have limited importance now. We should be going all out for the main two prizes this year and need our key players fresh.

Why does he deserve respect? After what he's put the club through in the past? He's our Wayne Rooney, a great player for us, but dragged our name through the mud during a pivotal time. I'm just glad that he never broke any club records like Wayne Rooney did at United, which would force us to recognise him as a club legend.

What a load of rubbish!

Yes, it was a bit childish and little but frustrating what happened but it didn't affect the club or many people's admiration for what he did for us.

Mate, you’ve conveniently omitted the first part of my sentence about if Dinho is injured. Strange post.

What a disgraceful post

Watch his performance in the Barca game away in 2015 and tell me his antics didn't effect us.... Everyone is allowed an off day, Zaba had them, Vinnie has them still.... but that game Yaya had zero ambition or passion to play anything, walked in midfield and didn't put a single challenge in... I'm not nit picking, but I've genuinely never seen a City player have a game like that in my life, not even Mcmanaman.

Yaya still wouldn’t play if Fernandinho was injured though. We’ve already seen Pep play both Gundogan and Delph in that position.

Ok, however point still remains though that can we then afford a squad place going to someone who isn’t capable of starting a game....

Why is it? Like I said I'll consider Yaya an important player during the time we needed him, like Tevez.... club legend though? The suggestion that he's a club legend is laughable.

2011 FA Cup - All Yaya Toure...

2011/12 PL Title - Yaya, Vinnie and Kun the main men.

2012/13 CS - Yaya, again.

2013/14 Premier League AND League Cup - Yaya the driving force, again.

2015/16 League Cup - Powers were on the wane to be fair, but taking and scoring the pressure penalty is never easy.

He absolutely is a club legend. It was Yaya & Yaya alone who dragged this club upwards. He’s had BY FAR the biggest impact at this club since the black and white days, and it’s not even close.

He’s hardly in the squad these days anyway, mate. Plus a great figure in the dressing room. I don’t see any harm in him staying until the end.

Also, if we get rid it’d leave us short in midfield. You’re not going to find a top class midfielder in January and don’t see Pep trusting the youngsters enough to come in.

So let's just ignore Silva being the best player we've ever had being the key factor to everything, or do you just see it as goals being the key factor? Yaya had 2 years of being an absolute beast... if 2 years is all it takes being a City legend these days then I guess Ederson and Bernardo can also be club legends next season. why not make Balotelli a legend as well for his assist to Aguero?
