I don't know how much truth is in this but I saw in an article about Fernandinho in the MEN which one of the comments from a user said that Fernando was bought to compete with Yaya and not Fernandinho which Yaya feels really threatened. This is what the guy said:

Rumours coming out from behind the scenes at City indicate that Fernando was signed to compete with Toure, not Fernandinho's place in the side.

Apparently, this is the reason that set off the 'birthday-gate' fiasco with the player and his agent. Scouting reports indicate that Fernando is a technically better, all-round 'young' pacy version of Toure but who can tackle, as well. Toure is aware of Fernando's ability, apparently.

As soon as Toure knew that City were going back for him this summer, it set him off.

For Toure to feel 'threatened', I do hope that Fernando will prove that he is as good and can live up to the 'hype'

Doesn't sound like the fernando discussed on the transfer forums who's a pure defensive midfielder, if anything to take on yaya and dinhos defensive duties to make them able to concentrate on attacking.

Wouldn't be surprised if talks are being planned though, makes sense to sort out what yayas actually after and what we want to do (convince him to stay/sell him off)

Why PSG? Well for one he seemed to enjoy his two weeks in Qatar. Especially when the press spoon fed him questions about him playing for PSG.

You can also add to that.

PSG directly threatened us through the French press that they would tap up our best players, after we were rumoured to be interested in signing Matuidi in the January window.

Seems like they mean business.

I'd only let Toure join them if they paid a huge fee.

Toure is in a different league to Luiz, and they paid how much for him?

YaYa is far better at attacking mind.

Yaya is head and shoulder our best passer of the footballer. Fernando is not in yayas class at anything from what I have seen of him ( which is admittedly limited )

Yaya's passing ability and range is exemplary,i'm pretty sure Fernando's game isn't on that level.

As for yaya being a DM,i don't believe he ever truly has been,even at Olympiacos he was pulling strings.

With the greatest respect, that sounds like nonsense to me. Fernando has been brought in to compete with/replace Garcia, not compete with Toure.

You cant replace Toure he is the best at what he does, but you can sell move on and put that money into 1 player we need Dinho would be as good as we could get on the market to replace him we need a great CH I'd like to see the money from Yaya and 30 odd mill go to the best poss CH

Starting the season with only Fernando, Fernandinho and Garcia as central midfielders would be folly in my opinion. Milner could play there, but if Toure left (still a big if in my opinion) we would be well short in that position compared to our rivals.

Fernandinho definitely has the quality to play further forward, and I think we signed Fernando with that in mind. There's no way we'll let Toure go without replacing him though. His departure would leave a big void in the squad.

I have a feeling that Pellegrini wanted Fernandiho to play in his natural role last season, but Yaya refused to play in a holding role.

It makes no sense that we spend £35 million on a CM but then we use him as a sitting midfielder.

The timing of Toure wanting to go couldn't be worse. His age and desire to leave will influence the price, and it's doubtful we can bring in a player of his quality for whatever fee we end up getting.
If Yaya does leave, the FFP sanctions that were a slight hinderance, could suddenly have real weight.
