Yaya Toure Retires - City Legend and one of the Best ever

The thing about Yaya is that whilst he was capable of winning games single handedly, to my mind for every 9/10 or 10/10 game there would be two or three where he was a 5 or 6/10. Whether that was because he was played when he was carrying injuries, whether sometimes the opposition set up in a way that nullified him, whether sometimes he just couldn’t be fucked, whatever the reason was, I’d agree with the general sentiment that Yaya hit heights Merlin never managed, but then again Merlin would be the one you could rely on for turning in 8/10 performances week in week out.

Both of them are amongst the finest players I have ever seen play the game at all, never mind play for City, and I consider myself and my kids fortunate to have seen two of the games true greats playing week in week out.

Since this is Yaya’s thread, here are my Yaya favourite moments:

- the goal agains the rags in the semi final at Wembley. Once we went ahead I didn’t think we would lose, and a goal from us started looking more likely for about the last 10 minutes of the first half.
- the goal against Stoke in the final. The significance of that goal can’t be overstated, but in itself the goal was a thing of beauty for the incredible power in the shot. No keeper was saving that.
- the goals against Newcastle the last game before QPR, without which we wouldn’t have won the league
- that goal against Villa in the 13/14 season. Graeme Souness described it as being like a big kid playing football with a load of little kids in the playground, which as descriptions go can’t be bettered.
- rolling in that penalty against the dippers to win the League Cup under Pellegrini. The last time he had a decisive influence on us winning a trophy.

Yep, Silva has been great. He's a joy to watch on his day. His highlight reel will be a lot shorter than Yaya's. That's life though.

Shame, that's life though, isn't it? lol

Yes pal.I hear you.
All Africans are thick and sound as "dumb as toast " when speaking. .even if they are conversing in their 5th language.

And if you really think talking about your bloody pet cat shitting itself was a suitable metaphor when discussing Yaya Toure.....I pity you .

Fwiw I have listened to many of your own countryman speak over the years. .and not been able to understand much of what they were saying. I didn't however form the opinion they were thick/of low intelligence.
Respect for others different to me is high on my list of values.. .

Hahaha, you noticed what he did there right? thought I was the only one who noticed it. The anti-yaya brigade are indeed showing their true colours. Its hilarious!

Apparently some anti-yaya campaigners here credit the 2011/2012 title win to Carlos Tevez and not Yaya, as Yaya was nothing but a passenger through ot his time at City. I am truly disappointed at what some City fans have showed on this thread. The bias and hatred is just disgusting.

One that is not on the list and is one of my favourites was Yaya in the league cup final v Sunderland.
What a hit, in the time it was up in the air I turned round to my brother and said ‘what’s he done that for’. How wrong I was, it was a thing of beauty. Then Nasri scoring afterwards had us going wild in Wembley.

Give it a rest FFS.

Give it a rest FFS.

I could give it a rest but its disgusting to see "fans" discredit a footballer for everything BUT his footballing abilities. The fans on this thread allowed a Barcelona fan, a from another club come here to start some smear campaign against Yaya and everyone jumped on the bandwagon! its ridiculous! on numerous occasions Messi has held Barcelona ransom yet Barcelona fans wouldn't say shit about him, certain Barcelona footballers have failed drug tests yet they are still held up as club legends and greats, shame Yaya can't be held up as a great because of the crimes he committed - his agent saying something about Cake and Yaya bringing up an old issue that happened in Barcelona, an issue none of us here were witnesses to.

I guess that's life anyway.

Look how Yaya is trying to get all the players to come to him and celebrate him as if he had just won it for them when Caballero was the hero actually and had pulled off 3 saves.

Never on the same level as a Kompany, Silva or Aguero in terms of all around Legend status.

So Yaya speaking out about an incident between himself and Pep years ago at Barcelona makes City look bad? hmmmm....and all this time I thought Manchester City was located in Manchester, had no idea it was somewhere in Catalunya.
Can't you fucking read,he said the club stopped him from seeing his dying brother, disrespected him by not celebrating his birthday when there is footage of him being given a massive cake on the plane and calling our manager a racist
