Yaya Toure Retires - City Legend and one of the Best ever

Yep. Without a doubt.for those of us able to put a players personality aside from his pure football ability. It was Yaya who time after time after time changed games for us.Not Silva.it was Yaya who carried the team in so many difficult away games ..when the going got tough..Yaya got going.Any fan attending games home and away when we were seeking to establish a foothold on the elite of the game in this country will tell you who our most important player was
.Being a 'pretty ' midfielder with fantastic ball retention skills and a wonderful short passing range ,the occasional goal and a consu mate professional is what David Silva is...a simply wonderful player in his own right and a privilege to watch I have to say....
But it is Yaya who the team looked up to,it was Yaya who could operate a high level short passing game deep in central midfield before suddenly pinging a 60 yard ball to split the opposing team in two...and it was Yaya who dominated other teams midfield. ..every single one of them without any exception. And every team knew it.He was unplayable in his prime .Vincent Kompany knew it..and his judgement as a respected fellow player should be studied by a few on here who are blinded by the admirable skills of a fellow player who, quite frankly ,went hiding in so many tough games away from home offering no goal threat whatsoever and like others around him looked to Yaya to pull us through...Newcastle away 2012 is the clearest example of this...for those of us walking out of St James Park after that crucial game ..no one was talking about anybody else but the great Yaya Toure who almost single handedly dug us out of a tough fixture against a very lively home side roared on by vociferous support baying for our blood.
The range and number of goals scored by our midfield genius and the quite astonishing range of deadly accurate, passes both long and short together with the sheer physical presence of the man meant it was he who bossed games, dictated our play and ...most importantly. .was looked up to/relied upon by every single other team mate.
What a player!
The greatest player I've seen play for our great club..In past eras of course Billy Meredith Frank Swift Bert Trautmann Colin Bell and Peter Doherty are all spoken of with high praise...my opinion is limited to what I have witnessed as a match going supporter. (Fav player is still Paul Lake tho! )
Great post

He's a bit of a cnut but he was our cnut.
Huge player for us, one of the very best

Silva has been top class for 9 straight years for us and an instrumental part of every trophy we've won it that time. Yaya was top notch for four seasons then retired 3 years before he left the club.

The truth, it is out there if you want to see it.

He was unbelievable in that one season of goals galore and powerhouse running and three other seasons of top class play but like you said he was finished long before he retired.

Nothing to do with cakes, agents, dead brother, racism allegations, though in the bigger picture of City legends these things do have to be taken into account.

Yep, Silva has been great. He's a joy to watch on his day. His highlight reel will be a lot shorter than Yaya's. That's life though.

Yes pal.I hear you.
All Africans are thick and sound as "dumb as toast " when speaking. .even if they are conversing in their 5th language.

And if you really think talking about your bloody pet cat shitting itself was a suitable metaphor when discussing Yaya Toure.....I pity you .

Fwiw I have listened to many of your own countryman speak over the years. .and not been able to understand much of what they were saying. I didn't however form the opinion they were thick/of low intelligence.
Respect for others different to me is high on my list of values.. .
That is what's is known as "unconscious bias" assuming I am from Scotland - which, as it happens I am not. My logic about Yaya being dumb as toast has nothing to do with his ability to converse or understanding his accent - that is another unconscious bias and actually has no relevance on why I think he is stupid it is purely that he is unable to construct a sensible conversation or the fa the has an agent that spouts such shit and he never reigned him in. Things like this (there are many more examples) are the reason I think he Is stupid. It is actually possible to be a great footballer and stupid - the two things are not inextricably linked

Aren't there different spectrums of intelligence though?

If you believe being able to argue pointlessly about politics all day and talking piffle, is the pinnacle of human intelligence, I beg to differ.

As for Yaya, he seems to have a genuine case of social anxiety to me. It can be hard for people like that to think clearly and articulate themselves properly when put on the spot. It doesn't mean they are stupid or incapable of intelligent thought.
Fair point, and as you intimate, there are a million ways intelligence can be defined. I think I would argue (and I accept this hasn't been done so it is only an opinion based on the times I have heard him speak - in both English and French ) - that I would be truly astonished if his IQ is anywhere greater than 90

Yaya on his game was one of the greatest midfielders the game has ever seen. He had virtually everything: speed, brutal strength, amazing control and passing, superb ball retention, a great finisher, amazing at set pieces (especially penalties).

He was that good, albeit too infrequently, and not enough in Europe to be a true great of the game.
