Yaya....world class attacking midfielder....

Jesus Christ. Some people on here. When Yaya's played in a holding role alongside someone who works hard and can read the game well like Barry, then he's the best defensive midfielder in the world. Good in the air, strong in the tackle, brilliant passer and dictates our style of play. Please name someone better OP.

He's also a world class attacking midfielder yes. The reason he so often starts deeper is because we have an abundance of attacking talent but are particularly lacking in quality in the centre of midfield.

Yaya was piss poor yesterday, but it's not often you can say that. When we boss possession, which we did for the majority of last season, his passing from deep is essential to how we play. He's the best in the world at what he does by a distance, whether that's playing deep or further forward. Yaya could be a world class centre back or a world class centre forward if he wanted to be.

He's average defensive and fantastic attacking. I think people will see the word average and yaya together and get all emotional. but to play him there is double negative. you are hurting the team and you are wasting yaya

The problem for Yaya is accomodating him into the side in a more offensive role. The year we won the cup Yaya played the majority of the season ofF the striker Tevez as Mancini made sure we were difficult to beat first and foremost but we didnt score enough goals that year to challenge for the title.

Credit to Mancini, in the summer he highlighted we required more goals and therefore purchased Aguero and played two forwards with one operating in the role of Yaya just off the leading striker. Furthermore Nasri was purchased resulting in Silva and Nasri being the created hub of the side. For Yaya this has led to a slightly deeper role, but although maybe not getting the best from him we have scored more frequently with Dzeko, Aguero, Balotelli scoring a number of goals rather than the reliance on Tevez from the previous year. Still his use of Yaya late on in an advanced position is very effective. The difficulty is fitting him into that position without losing the effectiveness of others.

Yaya overall is imho the best box to box MD in the world right now.
But his game is clearly flawed : slow pace and poor workrate as a pressing midfielder.
He indeed is just average as a pure defensive MD, but when he switches to an attacking spree he is unstoppable, a real war-machine !
That's why Mancini tried so many time to combine a duet of two MDs to cover for Yaya when he is up-front.

He is just too damn lazy to work.as a midfield 2 that is why barca let him go because they realisef he wasn't working hard enough on the defensive side when they lost the ball, like right now watch how many times silva and others had to cover for him whenever he lost the ball.

He is lazy because the sooner he is moved forward the bettet he plays as he knows he won't have to defend anymore, 2nd he also seems gazed after 70 minutes or so for top player earning as much as he does he should be a lot fitter, barca knew this as busquets is a harder worker than yaya despite being less talented and yaya is only going to get worse.

We should have never allowed de jong to as him and barry made this team so hard to beat and what is with this nastisic damn that guy is slow as hell.

We should play him as a libero.

He won the champs league doing that for Barca against the rags
