Yaya

Personally I think you're wrong in your perception that a midfielders defensive job is done as long as he "doesn't allow the opposing centre back or defensive midfielder to amble past him", that's only part of the defensive responsibility. There's positioning to block passes into strikers feet, there's closing down quickly at the right angle to shut off passing options, there's coming back to take the ball off a striker who is being held up/contained by a defender, there's doubling up to stop a winger coming inside your full back.

All dirty jobs our midfield doesn't like and that's why we're 4th and not walking away with another league title.
I totally agree with you, but closing down quickly and pressing quickly is something i would like to see all of the other attacking players do as well. It's not just a fault of Yaya's. Silva doesn't do it, De Bruyne doesn't Nasri doesn't, Aguero doesn't. On top of that, our defensive players over do it, rushing out of position to close space without thinking of the space they are leaving behind themselves. Otamendi does this a lot, as does Mangala, as does Zabaleta and as do both Ferns.

The thing with Yaya is at his age you can't expect him to contribute to every single phase of play. With Fernandinho and Fernando behind him (aswell as a back four) he shouldn't be worrying too much defensively, especially since teams only break on us with a small handful of players. I would like him to press more but only if it is a team effort and we have worked on a specific approach in relation to a specific opponent (like teams do with us, ironically with Yaya).

I think the way to view him is as an attacking player who drops deep to get on the ball. Asking him to contribute enormously to the defensive side of things is the same as asking David Silva to do it or De Bruyne. Or actually it's like expecting Fernando to arrive into the 6 yard box for tap ins....

Oh wait he can't do that because of Yaya :p

Yaya by association must also be a **** as he's previously said his agent speaks for him. You can't bring yourself to say that though can you because the whole Yaya dreamland you're living in will come crumbling down.

Can I just ask when Aguero's agent last came out demanding a new contract by threatening to leave? Can I just ask when Silva's agent last came out demanding a new contract by threatening to leave? Can I just ask when Kompany's agent last came out demanding a new contract by threatening to leave? Hart, Zabaleta, Clichy, Fernandinho, anyone.......

Didnt Kompany have a deal lined up with Barca when he fell out with Bobby Manc ?

Saddens me to think these are probably his last games in a City shirt. Fabulous player who has contributed hugely to our transformation.

Another point that seems to go unmentioned on here is the amount of games he has played for us..

He is very rarely injured and when he is its 2 weeks at the most..

He has played carrying injuries many many times, not very many of our current squad would do the same..

His knee was clearly strapped on Tuesday.
He's had some sort of strapping for most of the season, I know it won't be popular with fatbloke (and others), but I think he's played injured for much of this season, if he really didn't care he could have easily declared himself unfit, but he rarely does.

Yes, but he didn't say he was leaving, he agreed personal terms 'in case he would be available', he did not WANT to leave, and certainly did not hold the club at gunpoint on numerous occasions.

Bye Yaya, love you and your contribution to the cause, but I support Manchester City, not any one player.

Exactly. Silva almost gets a free pass on here for his performances because he is playing with ankle pain. Yaya has been playing with a Stone Cold Steve Austin knee brace on most of the season.

Hey - he's going nowhere yet. He's the man in most big games, and I, for one, am fucking glad he's our man on Sunday.

That's bollocks isn't it. You might want to read the several Silva threads that have sprung up over the last 3 months.

The worst bit is his saying "If they give him a new contract Yaya will give the christie cancer hospital £1million", can just imagine the headlines now if we dont give him a new contract. Why doesnt he give them a million anyway? Not like he is short of a few quid

I've tidied this up now, but one of the reasons we got rid of the player threads a while ago was because they get dominated by personal arguments and posters with an axe to grind against a player.

The same thing was happening here, and we'll have to start handing out thread bans in future if the same thing continues.

I would say it was the opposite that was ruining the threads, the posters who said he had a good game when he blatantly didn't. The happy clappers seemed to have derailed the thread from decent discussion

I know it's the Yaya thread but I should still be allowed to post about Clichy being a useless twat without you moving it to the mod forum.

I take it you've all seen Domenech's comments about Yaya and the PSG game.

To summarise he thinks Yaya is now a centre-circle to centre-circle player and there's no way MCFC can play with the intensity required to beat PSG. I know Domenench is not that well regarded but it is interesting to see how City are regarded by people in the game.

Sad but so very true.
