Yaya's Goal - Was It Really "Out Of Nowhere"?

We were in Block 548 - more or less level with the goal.

As the ball was arcing towards the goal, I thought it was going just over and I took a split-second for me to realise that the ball had actually ended up in the net.

Having watched the slo-mo replays that moggy posted on here, I can see why I thought that; the ball dips under the crossbar at the very last moment.

We are so lucky to have players such as YaYa, Sergio and Merlin.

Yaya's goal clocked at 57.2mph from 33.5 yds out - definitely wasn't a cross. Nasri's scorcher was 67.5mph from 19.8 yds out.

The pass from zabba wasn't that good as yaya had to back peddle slightly.so the execution and finish is even more impressive.

I disagree, the fact that the pass was slightly behind yaya gave him the perfect angle to wrap his whole foot around the ball in a similar way to how he takes free kicks.

This. It made him shuffle/set for it.

First day back in work since the win, and the first thing out of a rags mouth "there's no way toure was shouting, its a cross gone wrong" he's absolutely adamant, and its getting very heated in here already

just tell him/her it was more of a shot then wiggys when he shinned the overhead kick in the derby

Went through this with my daughter last night and she was well impressed.

Strange we haven't heard anything from the pundits but then the idea that this was something the 'team' (and presumably manager) may have worked out prior to the game doesn't sit well with the accepted narrative that we were/are a shit team 'rescued' by moments of individual brilliance.

whilst nasri's shot was indeed a pearler, the actual hardest ever recorded shot is 130mph i believe!!??!

Could well be, I think one by David Hirst gets mentioned a lot which was claimed to be over 100mph, although this was a shot that didn't end up a goal.

There are quite a few scored that are claimed to be in the 80-90 mph region, although many of the really quick ones were struck from closer range on the volley/half volley, or from a dead-ball situation with a run up. I think what makes the Yaya goal a bit special is the distance from goal and the fact that there's no run up involved to generate extra power/speed.
