York away

I was the only City fan not at that match.

Three of us then

At the time of the game I worked for a firm that was based in Leeds. The buyer was a York season ticket holder who asked if I wanted to go, to which I politely declined
After the result I was relieved that I didn't take him up on the offer, but for the last five or six years I've regretted it as it's now such a historic game for all the wrong reasons

I was there and it was on my birthday so me and my mates got absolutely leathered. In fact so leathered that a couple of us decided to nick a rowing boat to row back to Manchester. Luckily a couple of sensible York fans dragged us out before we could set off

Yes those days were fun travelling up and down the country. When you just had to queue up to get your ticket for the away games, even some were cash at the gate. ! game stands out think it may have been Swindon Town away when we had nearly 3/4 of the ground full with City fans, cheering the team on. Alas can't be done nowadays.

SWINDON...another of one of many great away days. Freezing February day. Me & our kid took our youngest,my daughter his son,to their first away game.

Stopped in Woodstock & then in a real ale pub en route. Got well settled in but couldn't miss the game. On the open end, drizzle & freezing. City fans everywhere & a lot of old faces about. Good win, couple of pints in Chesterfield on the way back, top day. Good memories.

Found my ticket stub from this game when I was home a few months ago. Ironically, being one of the hundreds of thousands of blues who were actually there, I remember next to nothing about the day or the game.

I remember more about the Wrexham game, that was a top day out.

Only remember two things about York away - Tony Vaughan was utter shite and I met Big Mal in the station buffet - BEFORE the game and he was off his tits - tragic it quite upset me at the time seeing one of my heros in that state.

Wrexham - pissed it down it was freezing cold, Billy Duffy on the pitch before the game and Terry Cooke played for Wrexam (I think).

slightly different angle on "I was there". Wifes cousin lived in York and got us tickets in the away end, I had a good view of the Craig Russell mis-kick. How ever bad Leciester away was, nothing on that period upto xmas 1988 and the 2nd Half turn around against Stoke.

Looking at that table - Macclesfield Town - when we smashed them 1-0! With the ground chock full of Blues and the touts charging (and getting!) 50/60 quid for a 4 pound ticket!

Swerved this one. Which is strange in retrospect as I love York and will usually find any excuse to go there.

What i cannot grasp is the worse we got the more fervent our support got , basically we were a bunch of masochists whilst the Rags were doing the treble i was drinking trebles to drink myself into oblivion before a game , happy days :)

Joke going round at the time how it was cheaper to get a City season ticket , than paying a prostitute to whip me every week.

And 6 others have at various times dropped out of the league altogether, including both York and Wrexham who, as others have said, were our next fixture.

York bottom of the conference and a fair bet to drop down even lower. It's been some change in fortunes.
