York away

York bottom of the conference and a fair bet to drop down even lower. It's been some change in fortunes.

City relegated York in the last game of the season 4-0 a few months later, they were outside the bottom 4 until that game. The loss at York was never talked about until internet forums dredged it up as a low point, no one else cared.

York away, that's nothing ;) How about Jamaica at home just three days after SJoke 2-MCFC 5 and relegation to the (old money) third. Real support and Nicky Weavers debut, it was nil nil iirc and he was MoM by a country mile.

Ahhhh, the annual York away thread. That season was hilarious, terrifying and just rather odd in every way. Clearly I was one of the 387,000 that made the pilgrimage that day...

That was some season! i took my step-daughter on her 1st ever football match that season we drew 0-0 with bristol rovers, it was prob the worst 90mins of football ive ever seen & it was freezin! think it put her off football for life!!!

I took my girlfriend at the time to Chesterfield at home and had front row seats in the north stand. It was her first football match ever and we was looking for our seat numbers when I turned round and noticed she'd disappeared. She'd only wandered off in the direction of the Chesterfield end and was ready to sit with them when I shouted her back. If i remember rightly we sang 'you can stick your fuckin spire up your arse ' to the away fans.

What was?

Mansfield! Auto W Cup! Swindon must have been the lowest league attendance!

I think you are correct Swindon was the lowest league attendance. Surprised there were so many there as we were playing particularly shit at the time, there was also a bus strike and it was pouring down. It was the season before Mercer and Allison arrived.
I remember we lost 2-1 with Alan Oaks scoring for us, Mike Summerbee got one if theirs. My mate said at the game that the Summerbee fella looked quite useful.

I was at Wrexham, Colchester and Jamaica at home but not York City. There was a real racial undertone (against City fans) at the Jamaica match in the North Stand.
Are you serious? All I can remember was getting a little high from the waves of ganja smoke weaving up the North Stand.

York away - there were a lot of spares available - people expected that (as usual) there would be demand on the day so came with mates' tickets and couldn't shift them.

Didn`t attend that game, but was there in about 1974 ? when the 3 day week was on and we played them on a Wednesday afternoon at about 2.00 pm,in the League Cup.

I also didn't attend that game but I was there also in the League Cup game. I remember my mates Dad driving us up there, it was November 1973......43 years ago!!
That was the season we lost in the final against Wolves.
