Yorkshire Cricket Club

The tweets from Rafiq are inexcusable and have been rightly condemned. It doesn’t change anything regarding the issue of institutional racism at Yorkshire though.
No it doesn't but it does mean that nobody should be regarding him as a "virtuous victim" when he abused others in the exact same manner, either.

I abhor what happened to him, but I also abhor his own behaviour, his inability to readily admit to having behaved in the same way before others exposed it, or others believing that this 'cancels out' his behaviour.

It’s a complete fucking mess. A disgrace all round with skeletons jumping out of every wardrobe in the game it seems.

Lets deal with the racism.

Lets also be extremely careful in that we don’t go down a road in which anything and everything said in years gone by is deemed to be inappropriate by todays social media imposed standards and a pound of flesh is required to satisfy the online audience.

We have a player being investigated because of his dogs name. At some point it has to stop.
Wing commander Guy Gibson named his dog ni.........er. Was the hero of the Dam Busters a racist?

Wing commander Guy Gibson named he's dog ni.........er.

He did in an era it was acceptable to do so.

Would it be acceptable today? No of course not

Is calling a dog Kevin racist? Is it fuck.

Absolutely, there are no sides in this and there shouldn't be. Sometimes we have to look at the big picture no matter how unpleasant that might be.

How fucking awkward is that. I know the guy has suffered, that’s without doubt, but here he is now apologising for using anti-Semitic language. His creditably has took a bit of a nose dive there.
Fucking brilliant, I bet he feels a right bellend. Funny how he had to go back to check he wrote that but can remember every conversation he had 10 years ago.

A question: At what point does the “victim” become part of the issue for his own acquiescence?

In short, if I get called a (Fill in the slur) at work, how long do I have to state I don’t like it before it becomes acquiescence and “accepted” as banter?

Never. It never becomes OK to racially abuse someone because they are too intimidated to stand up to you.

I’m not one for victim blaming, but I do feel like victims have a responsibility to alert the world to their victimization, especially pervasive, institutional victimization, if we are ever going to address the issue ON THEIR BEHALF.

What you've described is literally the definition of victim blaming.

Not really mate.

Rafiq had a shocking time with Yorks who need serious reform. I hope Rafiq can get on with his life now. He fully deserves the compo.

That said, the £200k will encourage more claims. Some legit others less so. We only need to look at the £5bn fraud with the Covid loans to know that will be the cases.

As I said earlier in the thread, I just wished everyone could get on together and we see an end to the bigotry.

Oops - this post has suffered a bit due to subsequent events.

A bit!
